thanks for the info and correction.
that was a great era for music. lines drawn between genres of music were being crossed and ignored.....and it didn't dilute the music, it made it better

Interesting that it was Sly and SO that were using it ahead of Stevie. When you corrected me, I thought you were going to say Herbie Hancock. The stuff he was doing in that era was crazy.

Oh for sure on the bold:myman:I mentioned Herbie in another thread sometime ago about him and Stevie being some of the best to use the box. Facts about Herb as well breh that's a bad man.

Cats used to be able to experiment AND still make dope shyt :mjlol:. Now is seems like cats are scared save for a few exceptions. There was a point in music where cats were experimenting just to sound different and it was coming off as wack/pure garbage :scust: giving that lane a bad rap, and as a result the talented cats with the ability to innovate moreso started copying/playing it safe. I like what I'm starting to hear these days though.

To pre-HipHop influence R&B, overall, he's not that big of a player (not on the Curtis, Sly, Stevie etc... level) but to the HipHop and hiphop-influenced era of R&B, he's huge. You can hear his influence all over G-Funk, New jack Swing, 90's R&B and, modern auto tune era/current electro-funk.
