I haven't found Charlotte's "local" culture. It feels like a mixture of other cities, but not it's own place. The city is growing way too fast for its infrastructure to keep up with, which is why 77 south of uptown constant traffic jam. They decriminalized defecating in public places, so you see human feces on the street quite frequently; which likely ties into there being so many homeless people Uptown. Those are the issues that standout the most. Overall it's not a bad place, but I wouldn't make it my permanent home.
The mixture literally just happened. It was way easier to find Charlotte natives like 5 to 7 years ago. I find myself shocked when I find Charlotte natives now lol. I live outside of the city and work there. I find that to be the best way to enjoy Charlotte. I have no idea what section of Charlotte I want to live in so I just stay up in my little area. I love it because we are having more events now.. it’s hard AF to enjoy the events cause there’s lines everywhere because there too many damn people here :russ: I love being able to say I watched Charlotte grow though, I’ve seen the good with the bad.. Felt so bad literally having to cover people being kicked out of apartment buildings and all that.

Whites already have done that gentrification number in both...

Both cities are and have been growing more diverse for awhile now. Charlotte is around ~7% Asian, ~16% Hispanic; Raleigh around ~5% Asian, ~13% Hispanic. Both are big enough now, that there are a few Hispanic dominated areas, whereas Asians mostly live amongst white areas (there are a few more Asians in black Charlotte areas though)...

Definitely have noticed how the Hispanic population is soaring in NC in general, they are here and keep coming. Most of them live in black areas, and there aren't enough of them in either yet for there to be a bunch of Hispanic hoods---->but there are a couple in both...
Even worse. Latinos just follow black folks for some reason. Dislike us but follow us. Weird group

I will say, how you prefer Durham to Raleigh, I've never met anyone who does. Granted, I'm sure you know more people here than I do in general, and logically of course it makes sense that there are people who share your opinion, but I've met plenty of people who don't like Durham...

I'm currently working along Hillsborough Rd and I just had two coworkers in the last week, both who live in Durham, tell me how they prefer Raleigh...

They both are black women...

I just can't dig Durham like that 🤣 it's cool enough but I'm not crazy about it...
It’s nothing for me in Raleigh that I can’t do in Durham tbh. I stayed there for about 4 years and the vibe just different. Both are equally boring imo yet folk have this perception Raleigh is miles better. I really enjoy not go there for Crabtree going out to n glenwood and lees kitchen :wow:

Also folks I hoop with scared of Durham like it’s still dangerous shyts weird.

To me it's quantity, there may not be much in Raleigh you can't do in Durham, but there are more options for any one thing in Raleigh. Downtown Raleigh is 3x as big as Downtown Durham so there are more districts of activity in Downtown Raleigh...

Durham doesn't really have a North Hills, or a built up boulevard like Hillsborough. So those are a couple things Raleigh has that Durham doesn't, but mostly the things Durham has, you have 2-3x as much of those same options in Raleigh...

North hills is nice yes but other than kings yard house and level 7 it all breaks down to bowling a rooftop and a sports bar. It’s not the same look but im past the aesthetics. Raleigh downtown is indeed 3x bigger but im not going to every spot in that radius. I’ve been going on glenwood and Fayetteville and everywhere downtown a long time brehito it’s really not like that. Again you’re not wrong but you say you like quantity you got that quality wise Durham and Raleigh are closer with Raleigh still being on top. They’re so close to each other that I never really put them against each other it’s really just a matter of where you want to live. I work in Durham I live in Durham….the people who work in Durham but live in Raleigh because it’s “better” imo simply don’t know where to go.

Plus kings bowling alley kicked me out because I turned my hat backwards :mjpls:

Charlotte is the 6th fastest growing city in the country. It's definitely going thru some growing pains, but ite managing it well.

One day my city (Baltimore) will have the same problem

🤣 "brehito" I'm black as fukk dog 🤣

Fair enough analysis. Durham not really my speed but it's alright for what it is!

I wouldn’t say they’re “managing it well” but they’re doing ok. I am a fan of the growth but the infrastructure can’t handle it honestly.
