Decepts was early mid 80's with trickles in the early 90's. The Latin Kings and 5% were heavy in jail and in the streets. Bloods in Rikers was 96/97 but prior to that there was a small set in Red Hook and a small set of Rolling 30's in W Harlem. We used to laugh at the concept of banging with Cali colors then all of a sudden everything changed in 97.

Steele has a couple of nice vids on the origins of the Deceps, and its a few mini documentaries floating around on them.

I remember reading a pretty long and interesting article on Megatron's girl who turned her life around and became a social worker after he got killed and the Deceps started to fade away.

The 5% Nation was before the 90's. it was its strongest in the 80's in NYC. I knew dudes who had knowledge of self before Transformers even came out, god rallies were being held everywhere in BK, and you'd see ciphers of older dudes building. Also, the Latin Kings were strong in the 80's too, I used to live in Bushwick at one point so trust me I know, it was the Netas that got strong in the 90's.

Anyway, I knew Jamal aka Rock since he was a kid. We used to call him KRS because he had a big nose like him and he didn't rap. He used to be quiet until Brownsville changes him, Sethlow projects. He used to go to Lafayette HS too.

Aint no wrong...U are quoting me correcting someone......And 5% wasnt a gang......5 % was the 60's Father Allah aka Clearence 13 X did his thing in the 60s when Malcolm was still alive. 5% wasn't even a gang but they were considered a gang by outsiders and police in the 90's, thats why I mentioned them...Even till this day I dont consider them a gang, I'm speaking on the factions of what would be considered a "gang" in the 90's......Nobody was calling the 5% a gang in the 80's except the police......The police was also calling the Black Panthers/New Black panthers a gang.....we didnt call them that.....5% wasnt a gang'.....NYC was more into crews in the 90's before the Bloods popped up in the late 90's
