Joe Clark viewed the at-risk and troublesome Black and Brown youth as worthless and disposable. The same way America at-large views them. I knew him, in the 90's, as well as his 2nd wife, his son and 2 daughters. This is not some Wikipedia sh-t. The Black and Brown youth that he felt "couldn't be helped," were nothing more than cannon fodder, used to boost his public persona, and advance his career. But at least y'all enjoyed the movie
There are two sides, unfortunately.

There was a need for both the school to be "cleaned up" and for the neighborhood to be safe and conducive for students to learn while at the same time there was a need to dig up the root issues that plagued the at-risk and troubled Black youth.

Unfortunately, with a limited budget and the community not supporting him only one of the two was possible.

Who's going to help Kid Ray?

:sadcam:
It would have been interesting if they had done an epilogue.

After a brief stint in county lockup for possession, Raymondo Vazquez, aka "Kid Ray" decided to return to school in the fall. However, he was gunned down by the drug dealer he used to work for and who was expelled from Eastside High.

So Kid Ray did end up "dead in a year" :mjcry:

Society is much different now. Its is nowhere as violent and drug infested as it was in the 80s. So folks look at this shyt in 2020 eyes. The 80s were incredibly dangerous times. I can remember gangs hanging out after school and jumping kids in broad day light. Kats selling drugs on the corner a block away from school and cops not doing shyt about it.

Also back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. There were much more men and black men in the teaching field. The shyt that kids do now would not be tolerated back then. I was a 80s kid growing up when there was corporal punishment and most of my teachers were men. It was nothing for them to grab you by the collar and get in your face if you were being disrespectful especially the black male teachers (and black female teachers).

Their goals were to raise you to be a man and a functioning member of society. Seems like now a days the only time these schools want male teachers or for them to be tough on kids is when they coaching them in sports to help the team win.

Brotha can you give us a breakdown on how the racial make up between blacks and latins flipped in the neighborhood in the last 35 years?
