looks like a good investment propertyAlso, for all the bytching about weather, Chicago Winters have seemed to be mild as hell the past few years. This could 100% be bias but I can't even count on snow being on the ground by Christmas like I could as a kid. All this and a great lake makes this prime real estate. Also, condos like this in East Garfield park for less than 200k

That bytch 400+ in any neighborhood that I like. And that isn't even a stunner.
It’s not a Chicago Housing Authority complex.Considering it's on the National Register of Historic Places, I have my doubts it is being demolished with a timeline that short.
I'd assumed it was Section 8 or HUD Project-Based housing, but apparently it's just low-income housing.
Are there any verifiable sources?
Crack must have did it’s number and destroyed this community. This is interesting and actually not a hood look for the community lol
Built in the 1950s, Parkway Garden Homes was the first housing cooperative in Chicago that was owned and operated by middle-class black professionals. The 13-acre complex offered quality affordable housing during an era when discriminatory redlining practices were commonplace. Parkway Gardens shifted from cooperative ownership to HUD management in the 1970s and to private ownership in the 1980s. Following the change in ownership, the property deteriorated because of a lack of investment in modernization and maintenance. Crime rates also increased between the late 1980s and 2011. With the goal of re-establishing safety and housing quality on the property and in the community, Related Midwest — the Chicago affiliate of national real estate firm Related Companies and a major affordable housing and mixed-use developer known for its expertise in preservation projects — purchased Parkway Gardens in 2011. The company completed a significant renovation of the property in September 2013, preserving a site with historical significance and providing an affordable place for 2,000 people to live. This renovation of Parkway Gardens received the 2014 Chicago Neighborhood Development Award for Outstanding For-Profit Neighborhood Real Estate Project from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation Chicago.
The forced relocation of hundreds of families without concern to who anyone was related to wasnt a catalyst to poverty and gang warfare in Chicago?No..
Not what you initially said. The forced relocation of hundreds of families without concern to who anyone was related to wasnt a catalyst to poverty and gang warfare in Chicago?
Also why would they demolish a perfectly good housing complex that was renovated just 10 years ago
Certain houses the are cheap to so the question then becomes what are nikkas gonna do. Can't sit on your hands and then bemoan gentrification, same goes for Detroit another renowned city but sleeping giantChicago will be gentrified completely one day. It’s a gorgeous city. They’re not gonna keep letting those crazy muthafukkas run wild. Give it another 10-15 years.
bro regardless of how you feel about the architectural style thousands of families live there and it was all renovated recently so why would it be demolishedAin’t nothing “perfect good” about those ugly ass commie blocks.
Cities are looking to get rid all of these outdated mid-20th century Brutalist buildings. They’re also looking get rid of massive highways to make cities more dense and walkable.
