Regardless of personal feelings it would be hard to argue however that Angie & Flex were national radio figures (to the point where both had label situations) Slay was taking a risk being as demonstrative as he was. Those were fun dramatic times. People really may not understand the magnitude of Jay’s radio/behind the scenes power by that point in NY radio

At one point between The Dynasty and Blueprint era, Hov literally deaded a lot of up-and-coming rappers with a simple phone call. He was like the father figure and God-like power to other (successful) rappers.

For Kay Slay to take that risk and played Nasir's "Ether" was a Hail Mary-style risk that could have endangered his entire livelihood and his part in the culture. He stuck to his guns, use every resource he had at that time, and transcended into an irreplaceable figure in Hip Hop when Ether became a household verb for sonning people.

This fukked me up all day. KaySlay played a big part of my life during the early 2000s. Bunch of memories. Will never forget bumping into him on Canal street around 2005 and he was telling me he still was into the graffiti and told me about a tape he was about to drop with Ghostface. R.I.P to the legend.

I remember seeing him show flyers that were older than me...parties thrown at public schools and things of that nature..:wow:

He always showed love to the rappers in the struggle who didn't have the resources to compete:mjcry:

Might be one of the last djs of the culture who kept it pure hip hop with no politics involved
