@RGIII: Many may question, criticize & think they have all the right answers. But few

Of course there's a difference, especially considering how the league protects QBs in the pocket nowadays

The same way they're protected outside the pocket by sliding.

Really no different. Big Ben's biggest hits come in the pocket. We've seen too many injuries happen within the pocket where this "running" thing people continuously bring up is no different in my eyes.

If they slide, I saw Russell take a few unnecessary hits yesterday, same with RGIII throughout the season. And Ben is a good example too, because a lot of times his mobility allows him to extend the play trying to make something happen and he winds up taking a bigger hit as opposed to just throwing it away. And Ben is a big guy, if RGIII starts to take hits like that on a regular basis, he'll be eating through a straw before he's 30.

The same way I can say "if" a defender pulls up on a qb standing in the pocket. You have tons of qbs who tear up a collar bone or have their sternums ripped from their ribs cuz they're in the pocket. :scusthov:

Dog....you guys really think running makes you more likely to be hurt than standing still. That's an archaic belief IMO.

I think mobile QBs often put themselves in harms way more.

Think about it like this, I'm sure we can agree that mobile or not every QB is going to take hits in the pocket. That's the nature of the position. Now depending on your line, pocket presence, release etc. Some will get hit more than others. Brady and Manning have games were their uniforms don't get dirty. Big Ben and Cutler are often running for dear life.

The question with a guys like RGIII and Wilson is do the hits they avoid by being mobile offset the hits they take when they're making plays in the open field? Especially when you consider their size. Teams are careful giving too many carries to smaller backs for the same reason.

I think scheme can protect a qb as much as what they do in the pocket.

Brady and Manning get the ball out of their hands quicker than anyone because of the offenses they play in.

A lot of rethinking honestly needs to go into how qbs are labeled IMO.

Agreed, but I think when you have the luxury of an RGIII, the idea that you can or need to create a scheme to protect your QB falls on the wayside. It's like, "Why worry about the line we when we got :cape:."
