Rex is a very good coach. Anybody who says different is stupid. What's stopping Rex from becoming a great coach is the other sht that he likes to do.

Nah, what's stopping Rex from being a good coach can be boiled down to 2 things.

- Mismanagement of players
- Lack of any offensive knowledge

you dont have to have "offensive knowledge" to be a good coach.

Name me all the good coaches who are completely bereft of offensive knowledge like Rex is.

You don't have to be an X's and O's offensive guru, but you have to be able to know what works and what doesn't and how to handle both sides of the ball.

Rex wanting Sporano is pretty good evidence he didn't have a fukking clue about what makes an offense work in 2012

to be a head coach you do

Rex's philosophy on offense is outdated and its comical he's complaining about an offense he built. He wanted Sanchez here. He drafted Sanchez.

Rex reminds me so much of Mike Singletary, where the dude literally had ZERO clue about how to run an offense. Just completely dumbfounded on how to handle a QB or put together an offensive gameplan. He wanted to run between the tackles 45 times a game

no you don't. you don't need to have great knowledge of defense either if youre an oc promoted to head coaching. plenty of head coaches were defensive or offensive coordinators and relied on their coordinators for playcalling almost exclusively.

head coaching is all about in-game decisions and chemistry/leadership, along with personnel decisions. you had pure rah rah motivator coaches like cowher succeed.

I mean it doesnt hurt to know both sides and "what works" but usually delegation of authority to your oc is just fine

and sparano is not a terrible coordinator. jets offense needs better skill players in a bad way though.

Rex tied his ship to Sanchez and it failed. Sanchez was his guy....that alone is grounds for firing.

You don't have to be a genius on both sides, my whole point is you have to have some clue. Rex has no clue whatsoever of how to run an offense/manage offensive players.

He wanted Sporano who is an awful coordinator and stuck in the same 1960's era that Rex is.

you cant compare mike to rex

rex is a fine d coordinator. mike was a pure rah rah coach.

also, nothing wrong with running45 times a game even if it wasnt an exaggeration. we run waay more under harbaugh than we did under mike

I dont necessarily disagree with this thinking, because head coach takes responsibility.

but he probably went with the best qb on the roster, so its understandable... although its puzzling hes still sticking with sanchez even when jets have nothing to play for

Coaches have to manage the personnel allotted to them by management. Keeping Sanchez in for so long was a bad personnel move on his part. You see what Fox did in Denver with Orton when shyt was going bad. Sometimes even if you think the second option is worst, you have to at least try to mix it up. You can't keep doing the same ineffective shyt week after week and hoping for different results but that is exactly what Rex did.

But we run more creatively under Harbaugh, my problem with Singletary was literally up the middle dive plays 90% of the times.

And you're right Rex is a very good DC and Mike was just a bum overall, he was a good motivator though, for a little while.

The reason I compare them is because I feel neither one had any offensive intelligence.

Rex still thinks he's a DC. He's throwing Tannenbaum under the buss here to cover his own ass.....he's a phony
