It was a hard game to even enjoy....let alone like. From Lightning trying to be the second coming of Cloud, to how cringey the rest of the cast was. From the c00n with a chocobo nest afro to the try hard attempts at characters from the past like Zell and Payne, it was all so lukewarm. Even the story is recycled, except that Terra is an actual summon and Lightning is a human imbued with some high tier power. Its like they tired to merge Terra, Cloud and Squall (gunblade) into one character, and got the complete opposite of all of them combined....the walking void.

Then there's the brainless battle system. I honestly think I used 5 potions through my whole playthough. I get people don't like to micromanage but holy fukk is the battle system just boring and brainless.

I enjoyed the sequel, as it added pokemon (pet) element, even if the two main characters were dull and the corridor adventures continued.

XIII had a bad story but it was a better story than XIII-2s:picard:
XIII-2 has one of the greatest endings I've ever seen in a video game. It was the ultimate troll ending. The good guys lost completely on every level. They didn't catch one break anywhere.

XIII-2 also had better gameplay.

They honestly should've called the series FF: Emo....with Caius being the poster boy. It was like watching Naruto all over again.

I know why FFXIII gets shyt on but I still enjoyed the game. The battle system was just too goated. My biggest problem with the game is that it took like 30 hrs to fully unlock it basically.

I might replay it one day.

Game got far too much hate:unimpressed:
I mean half the game was a tutorial for a battle system that while it was great wasn’t complex enough to need that. Also the game’s cast sucked. I’m not really talking about the main cast mostly the supporting cast and antagonists.

It did bring in the age of the stagger bar mechanic in modern RPGs and playing VII Remake you can tell they set out to make a more playable version of the XIII battle system. In fact I feel like VII Remake leans heavy into the design of XIII.

We calling part 2 trash? It's the best of the 3 games.

Looking back at it, 13 wasn't a bad game at all, just very poor pacing and the fandom was entirely fed up with the linear/corridor experience Square was doing for 8 years straight. 13 was an unlucky game, second game to have the main protagonist an women and western fans really wasn't feeling her, the non mmo ff game on 7 gen systems, the first non mmo ff to be multiplatform at that. The first to slowly move away from the traditional gameplay ff is known for.

XIII doesn't have a main protagonist it's an ensemble cast. I know Lighting was featured in the marketing but she's not really more important to the plot than the other main cast members.
