Ok brehs what's your prediction record-wise and who are our pro-bowlers.
I say 12-4 realistically but 13-3 again is possible.
Pro-bowlers I see
Offense: I want to include gore but that depends on health and how they split carries, iupati, vdavis, staley, andy lee
Defense: both smiths, willis, bowman, maybe goldson if he wants to earn the money he wants.
So I got 9 with a possible 10

I definitely see us going 12-4. I know people get freaked out by looking at the schedule of who we have to face, but I think year 2 in this offense/defense is going to be leaps and bounds better than last year. The personnel packages alone are gonna be :ooh:. Game planning to play the niners is gonna have opposing coaches like :ohlawd: because of everything we can potentially throw at them.

It would be hard to duplicate last year. And it would be a miracle to repeat the turnover ratio, don't you think?

Turnover ratio yeah but at times we still gave up way 2 many yards passing. I actually think we can improve on that

Defense isn't all about the turnover ratio. I don't think we'll duplicate that, but getting stops, generating pressure, controlling the tempo, beasting on field position...we're all good in those departments.
I remember seeing a video from earlier in the Spring where Willis was talking about being in year 2 of the defense, and how the new packages they're working on and the new intricacies of the defense are really surprising him, to the point where he said he was talking to Bowman and was like, "How were we able to play in this defense last year without knowing this?" So just imagine what the defense is going to be like this year.
On offense, we led the league in field position; I don't see why we can't do that again this year, and with new weapons we should see Gore gash the defense with runs and the middle of the field be open for the crossing routes.
I don't get how people think we'll win less than 11 games this year...I just don't see it. Barring the injury bug decimating our ranks, I see 12-4 or 11-5 at the worst.

Rex is back at it again...and by back at it, I mean trying to poach our players (see Michael Crabtree).

Rex Ryan was (is?) interested in Colin Kaepernick | ProFootballTalk

The 49ers have their own version of Tim Tebow, only better. His name is Colin Kaepernick.

Two nights ago, Kaepernick bolted 78 yards for a touchdown on a simple Tebow-style shotgun read option. The former Nevada quarterback faked a handoff to LaMichael James, the defensive end crashed inside to clog the hole, and Kaepernick darted through the spot where the defensive end had been.

Just like Tebow.

On Sunday, Jets coach Rex Ryan danced dangerously close to the tampering line by making it known, in unsolicited fashion, that Ryan was interested in drafting Kaepernick in 2011.

“Again, some people think the Wildcat has come and gone. No, it hasn’t. If anything, it’s just the opposite. I saw the kid from San Francisco, Kaepernick,” Ryan said, via comments distributed by the team. “He runs a 4.4 or something. I was really intrigued by him when he came out because I thought we were going to lose Brad. [The 49ers] drafted him before we could, but I was interested in him. He went for a 70-yard touchdown run the other day. You’re seeing these guys and it’s hard to defend some of that stuff. When you have the ability to throw, as well as run, it makes it tough.”

It’s unclear whether Ryan was just riffing, or whether he was sending messages to one or more people.

To Mark Sanchez, possibly: “Don’t get too upset about the fact that we traded for Tebow. We thought about drafting last year a guy who runs faster and throws more accurately than him.”

To Tim Tebow, possibly: “It would be a good idea run faster and throw more accurately.”

To 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, possibly: “If you’re really all in with Alex Smith, why not give us a chance at taking Kaepernick off your hands?”

To Colin Kaepernick, possibly: “If you don’t like being stuck behind Smith, why not ask to be traded to the Jets?”

To the rest of the league, possibly: “Go ahead and assume that the Wildcat is dead.”

Regardless, chances are it wasn’t an accident that Rex publicly lamented the fact that the 49ers got Kaepernick in the second round of the 2011 draft before the Jets could get a crack at him.

Especially since the Jets didn’t even have a second-round pick in 2011.

Ok so, I have an idea. I'm going to go over all our guys on the team. I going to say what I think of them, assign a grade based on past performance and future impact and you can agree disagree or add on. So I will start with the biggest point of contention or maybe the least. The offensive side of ball. I will start from starter to backups

Quarterbacks:

Alex Smith: Alex has been a bust for most of his career, but the end of 2010, 2011 and so far now he has made some considerable strides. We can talk about how he has been on the OC carousel and the head coaching carousel, we can talk about hoe Mike Singletary got all reactionary and benched him prematurely. But all in all he has not lived up to the hype. Alex Smith at this point in his career can still be a good QB, if not elite. He is getting better in his accuracy, he is making better decisions in his passing and he has proven to quite mobile. On the downside, his stats make him a bottom tier passer despite keeping his interceptions low. Jim Harbaugh has worked nothing short of miracles with him and I think he will improve this year.

Grade: B

Colin Kaepernick: I can only go by his college performances and what I've seen of him in the past 2 pre-seasons and the Tampa Bay game. He is a very good playmaker with his feet, but based on what I've seen, he is not a great passer. He has a cannon for an arm, but his accuracy leaves something to be desired and that's putting it lightly. On the other hand I think he can be a potential stater down the line and that's like 3 years. As of now though...

Grade: C+ but i'll give him B- based on his potential curve.

Scott Tolzien: Based on what his preseason and having got seen some of his college play. I think he will be a career journeyman. He is the opposite of Kaep in that, he lacks any real physical skills, but he's smart and makes few mistakes. I think that he will beat out Josh Johnson and stay on the team for the foreseeable future as a backup, to whoever starts.

Grade: C

Josh Johnson: I think he is like Kaep but he has none of the upside. I think they brought him on because of his familiarity with Harbaugh but we aren't keep 4 QB's on the team and I think he Kaep may not be as good, now as him but he Kaep will improve, not sure if Johnson can, and even if he can, he has nowhere near as much upside. If Tampa Bay didn't have a reason to fight for the dude, despite being ideal for their offense on paper, then neither do we.

Grade: D+

so what are y'alls thoughts on the backup QB situation?

personally I think that a lotta 9er fans are going overboard with the tolzien love and the kaepernick/JJ hate.

I think at this point it's between Tolzien and Kaep. JJ just doesn't have the playbook down IMO. I think he's better than he has looked. I think he's the odd man out though cuz I doubt they carry 4 QB's.

there's only gonna be 3 QBs on the final roster but i think it's gonna come down to tolzien vs JJ. alex is gonna start and harbaugh said that kaep is emerging as the #2 which only leaves one spot left. tolzien looks like he has an edge on JJ right now but there's still 3 games left to decide on who's gonna take the last spot.

JJ is gonna be the #3 this week vs the texans so it'll be interesting to see how he does.

Like I said beforem I'd be surprised if JJ stays, I'd take youth over experience, I think since Kaep is the the clear #2 (though he's not nearly as good as Alex don't get it twisted), I still think he could be the QB moving forward if he can learn some finesse, but I'd rather have a smart (albeit unathletic) QB at #3 over a CK clone minus the upside, but that's just me.
