Jerry wasn't always there... Anyways, I think people look at receivers and then automatically think they're good because they're good and not because of the QB. Welker was a nobody in Miami. Harrison at the same time had an elite QB in Peyton. His numbers almost doubled with Peyton. Peyton MADE Blare White, Austin Collie, Stokley, Clark, etc. If James Jones was here, we'd dog him for all his drops....Jordy Nelson would also get dogged...but because they put up numbers with Rodgers that means they are elite receivers and are the reason for Rodgers' success. If Alex sat behind a douche like Favre and had the pressure of playing in his shadow, I could hear the Alex apologists using that as an excuse for failure.
Look around the league. There are QB's all over doing it with unknown/non-elite players. Alex is not a 1st overall pick QB. He is a 2nd, 3rd round guy. The constant complaints about crappy coaching when 3 of his first 4 OC's were Mike McCarthy, Norv Turner and Mike Martz. Martz even tried to change his mechanics and Alex didn't even bother. But wait...he gets with the worst OC in the history of the game in Raye and somehow has his best statistical season of his career at the time.
And lastly, as bad as things were for Alex, Shaun Hill went through the same thing and outplayed him. JT O'Sullivan got picked over him before he injured his shoulder and Troy Smith came in and put up numbers that Alex has yet to achieve. So, while things might have been crappy for him, he didn't do himself any favors by playing like shyt.
I will say he's a resilient guy and has mad heart but if every QB was given 8 years to finally "get it" we'd have fewer busts.
Gore, VD, Crabs and a good D is a lot more than what other "busts" have had. So sorry for not feeling all the way sorry for the guy.
If Alex gets a pass then so should Jason Campbell, David Carr, Jamarcus, Carr, etc... You don't think Harbs could do anything with them?
