That's pretty much how I felt but then I thought about how bad the line was and the fact that vernon davis couldnt even be used properly because he had to stay back and block amd not one go to receiver. I mean dude had arnaz battle at one point as a number one guy...

How soon you also forget Cedric Wilson. Brandon Williams, Johnnie Morton, Rasheed Marshall, Jason Hill, Bryan Gilmore, Taylor Jacobs, Darrel Jackson, Ashley Lelie, Dominique Ziegler, Brandon Jones

We had some great talent throughout the Nolan/Singletary error.

Just for fun, look at the 2007 draft class. As bad as Nolan was, he brought it some good players, especially in 2007

1 11 11 Patrick Willis Linebacker Mississippi
1 28 28 Joe Staley Offensive Tackle Central Michigan
3 12 76 Jason Hill Wide Receiver Washington State
3 34 97 Ray McDonald Defensive End Florida
4 5 104 Jay Moore Defensive End Nebraska
4 27 126 Dashon Goldson Safety Washington
4 36 135 Joe Cohen Defensive Tackle Florida
5 10 147 Tarell Brown Cornerback Texas
6 12 186 Thomas Clayton Running Back Kansas State

5 starters, 3 pro-bowlers and the very best LB in the game

Look at what montana had, rice and john taylor, manning had harrison and wayne, brady has maybe the best line in football along with welker hernandez gronkowski and moss went nuts with them. also look at who coached thise guys, now apply that same logic to alex. It's no coincidence that alex had the best season of his career when he got a competent coach. Lastly me saying he's a 2nd year player is in reference to the fact that it's obvious nobody coached the guy or helped him grow into the qb position for years. Im not saying he is a hall of famer but I also knew he wasnt as bad as he looked.

Jerry wasn't always there... Anyways, I think people look at receivers and then automatically think they're good because they're good and not because of the QB. Welker was a nobody in Miami. Harrison at the same time had an elite QB in Peyton. His numbers almost doubled with Peyton. Peyton MADE Blare White, Austin Collie, Stokley, Clark, etc. If James Jones was here, we'd dog him for all his drops....Jordy Nelson would also get dogged...but because they put up numbers with Rodgers that means they are elite receivers and are the reason for Rodgers' success. If Alex sat behind a douche like Favre and had the pressure of playing in his shadow, I could hear the Alex apologists using that as an excuse for failure.

Look around the league. There are QB's all over doing it with unknown/non-elite players. Alex is not a 1st overall pick QB. He is a 2nd, 3rd round guy. The constant complaints about crappy coaching when 3 of his first 4 OC's were Mike McCarthy, Norv Turner and Mike Martz. Martz even tried to change his mechanics and Alex didn't even bother. But wait...he gets with the worst OC in the history of the game in Raye and somehow has his best statistical season of his career at the time.

And lastly, as bad as things were for Alex, Shaun Hill went through the same thing and outplayed him. JT O'Sullivan got picked over him before he injured his shoulder and Troy Smith came in and put up numbers that Alex has yet to achieve. So, while things might have been crappy for him, he didn't do himself any favors by playing like shyt.

I will say he's a resilient guy and has mad heart but if every QB was given 8 years to finally "get it" we'd have fewer busts.

Gore, VD, Crabs and a good D is a lot more than what other "busts" have had. So sorry for not feeling all the way sorry for the guy.

If Alex gets a pass then so should Jason Campbell, David Carr, Jamarcus, Carr, etc... You don't think Harbs could do anything with them?

I can proudly say Willis and Davis are the two players I was dying for us to get in those years. Proud they became the foundation of our team.

Sad to say I was dying for us to draft Michael Crabthree too, that one aint turned out like the other two

Yeah, he had some horrendous years. But I must say at least he brought in the cornerstones of the team, even through FA with Justin Smith and the draft (Gore, Vernon, Willis, Bowman, Goldson, Staley, Rey)

You assume correct. Season ticket holder. Promised not to pour any of my money into the team until Al gave up power. RIP

Sometimes ya gotta do that, I remember a few years back I did that with the 49ers, refused to buy any merch or anything (live in NY) until we became a winning team, then we got Harbaugh the year after and my money ban of the team ended.

I'd actually have to disagree, as long as Staley stays healthy he is a very good left tackle and he is just now getting into his prime really, I think he can hold us down for another 5 or 6 years.

People who bash on smith arent unjustified. Honestly if I were a gm I would have done one of 2 things, that was get him some help or let him go, and until recently we did neither. As far as qbs making wrs great, that true to an extent but if your qb isnt great then the receivers should at least be able to make plays. but yeah what you say is right mainly but all of those receiver were game changers except welker. Jason campbell gets a bad rap but jamarcus is terrible, watching him at lsu we knew he had a big arm but couldnt hit the ground if he dropped the ball. David carr dont count lol. Point is, alex whole career was snake bitten and I think the dront office saw that.

Why does Carr not count? He had an AWFUL O-line. He broke the record for sacks. All he had was a young Johnson and Kubiak came in like Harbaugh did and said "bye bye". People forget that Harbs went after Hasselbeck AND drafted a QB the year he came in. So I don't think he was that high on Alex. Given the shortened season he had to stick with him. Again, they re-signed him to a contract that they can walk away from next year.

How are Jordy Nelson and James Jones game changers? Blare White? I can go all over the league and point to 3rd, 4th, 5th round receivers who are balling. Not saying that Swain and co would beast elsewhere but to blame Alex's failures on a the receiving core is stupid. He even admitted that he was tentative and should take more shots.

As far as receivers making plays....you're right..they should. But they have to be given the opportunity to. Throw the ball. We got folk here wanting 1200 yard seasons from receivers who barely get targeted past 5 yards. Some of that is Alex and some is the playcalling.
