It's just too often with the guy, seems like every time he has free time he's caught up in some dumb shyt.

DUI
Stabbing
Car crash
Fight

All in the same year, funny thing is his scouting report mentioned nothing about off field issues. 3/4 of those incidents could have possibly taken his life, gotta smarten up.

Actually, I think his overall coverage has improved considerably this year, he deserves some credit for why we have some of the best pass coverage in the L.
we don't. numbers are misleading, we saw what that pass coverage did against eli...weve played skelton, sanchez, pickspatrick, russell wilson, ponder so far...thats why #s appear good.

coverage is still our achilles heel on D and its more exposed this year that our pass rush slowed down a bit

Spotlight on a 49er -- Randy Moss

Transcript
"One thing I don’t like people getting mixed up. Football is a brutal sport. It’s not a handshaking sport, but for you to really be out there soft and doing a lot of smiling, that’s really not what football’s about. When I was growing up, I was bred to go out there and kill. It’s kind of a bad word to use, but that’s just how I was bred, to go out there and embarrass whoever is in front of me, go out there and make whomever look bad. I still hold that to my heart because without me doing whatever I had done in Pop Warner and junior high school and high school. I don’t really think I’d be the player I am today.

"I learned a certain way in Minnesota, then went to New England and learned a different way there. Then coming here it was just like re-energizing my thought process of how I thought it was. I learned from Coach Dennis Green and his staff. Then when I came here to the 49ers, I’m still learning and that’s a good thing. Coach G-Ro, Greg Roman, and his staff, has really showed me a different side to an offense. And that’s the thing about being a student of the game where you think you know so much, but each level or each year that you grow you’re still learning, you're still learning. And I think that if I stop learning then I’ll stop having the love and the passion to go out there and play the game. So right now I’m having a great time.

"I would like to be a head coach of a football team, to be able to run an offense. I’ve seen different types of caliber defenses thrown at me from different fronts, different play from the safeties, from the cornerbacks, and stuff like that. So that’s my way I think I want to be able to give back because I’ve seen a lot. And I didn't expect a lot of these things coming into this league. And even as I'm growing as a man, to be able to think that I know it all, which I don't -- I don't have all the answers -- but being able to come into work, and I love to swim and I love to lift weights and then go right into meetings just to see what type of plays called that week. That’s what makes things fun. I try to tell people this, that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are the hardest days of a professional football player’s career. Sunday is like, 'Let's go out to the playground and have fun.' I think in between the white lines on Sunday is when I feel most relieved because I can release whatever I have inside of me."

It should be noted that when Randy Moss said he wants to be a head coach, he clarified later for me at what level: "The NFL and collegiate level don’t have a lot of free time. …I love my family, I love the family life, I think coaching the collegiate and the NFL take away from my family…high school or middle school to help some young men that want to follow my path…I think I could feel comfortable on that level."

I agree with you in one way, we have a misleading ranking on pass coverage, but I still think our pass coverage is a lot better than it was last year. Culliver has stepped up and so has T. Brown, if anything Rogers is having a bit of an off year but the safeties are playing great football.

The only time the pass D looked bad was vs. Eli.

I don't believe coverage is our acchiles heal, i`d say our lack of pass rush would be in 2012.

pass rush can be fixed tho...we're obviously underperforming there but still I feel like when D feels like it needs to put pressure on the qb they can, not at will like last year, but still. aldon and justin are underperforming, but it could be the league catching up so they can adjust to it back after a few games....theyre premier players

secondary is what it is, out of the gang only culliver and maybe dashon can further improve in coverage imo. rogers is regressing and is pretty old, whitner regressed, pretty much becoming a box ss like michael lewis, brown imo is at his peak and does only well at perfectly executed cover 2 scheme.

its not crappy as it used to be, but its really not a standout secondary imo. they hit pretty well and when scheme holds up it works. imo the coverage success is mostly due to our other players and scheme. we get beat too often on deep balls and on short routes we have our excellent LBs to help out. that safety in the middle of the field thing works only when we're going against average to bad qbs who cant throw the ball outside deep with precision. when eli made those throws, safety help was always late and our man was beat :manny: and its not the first time on those kinda throws safety help was late

Why the negativity? Like dudes can't play better, you act like Rogers is Charles Woodson old. He's 31, but I still feel he's got a few good years left.

Goldson is top 5 at his position and only getting better.

I think you're underselling T. Brown, he has been very good this year. Also, Culliver to me has the ability not aonly to improve, but to be a top 10 CB . His ability to cover big WR's is what sets him apart.

As for Whitner, I think there is nothing wrong him in that role you described. That's what he is supposed to be, it's not like we're paying him a boat load of cash and he certainly isn't a liability out there.

I think I remember you being down on Culli last year, good to see you are seeing the light

Im not a big fan of culli...if a cb (who has the best speed in the secondary too) routinely gets burned deep while man-to-man...then its a problem. with that said, my point is that he has potential to improve. the other guys are at their peak or were there last year imo

I think you have a point, I don't see Rogers becoming better, he is what he is, but he is a good corner.

Brown I feel like is going to get better, he has room to improve and at some point him and Culli will be the 1 & 2 CB's.

To me Goldson, sky is the limit. I`m a Goldson stan admittedly, but I just love the way the guy plays the game. He puts the fear into an offense with hitting and hawking.

Whitner is a good player ,but a role player, I wouldn't feel screwed if he went out, the most expendable of the secondary.

I think all these guys would look so much better if we just got some pass rush, Brooks and AlDON are playing well, but otherwise people need to step up.

That means you Cowboy

That's a good interview from Randy, makes you happy he is a 49er, you know he's helping out the young guys.

I dont think aldon is playing well either...hes not playing bad, but not up to the standard he himself set. he's got some coverage sacks but he really doesnt bring the pressure like last year and (admittedly, that was to be expected) is a bit raw against the run on the edges and in coverage.

I agree on whitner-and I think his contract is up after next year, he'll most likely be gone.

Agree 100%

Aldon really isn't doing too great this year, he got 7.5, but before AZ he had 5.5.

I think being an every down player is taking away from his explosiveness, he really doesn't get much a rest. It's a shame Parys got hurt because we could have took him out more frequently to keep him a bit more explosive.

But this is good though for the long term, kids gonna need to be a full timer anyway

I think the inconvenient truth is that Justin Smith is getting blocked by father time. He overachieved last year and I think the dude is running out of gas. He seems to be giving it all but his motor is burning out. I think Aldon is still on track to have a 15 sack year, remember we have a lot of average to bad O-Lines to play this year to rack those up and he's still getting pressures on QB's. This is a growth year for him and he will realize what it takes to be an elite player for the future. We gotta give ourselves some credit.

Like I said before the loss of Haralson, hurts us in the run d considerably, the dude was a wrecking ball and took the edge off of Aldon Smith to have to defend against the run which is not his strength.

Rogers is still good though not as good as last year.
Culliver gets beat by elite receivers, but I think he still has the speed to stay in thr vicinity and he should get credit for shutting down Megatron in that Lions game, I think by next year he's our #1 CB.

Tarell Brown is an unsung hero, he's our best all around CB this year.

Donte Whitner is having an off year, but to be honest, he's still a very good safety and cheap considering his talent level and relative youth. He's was always an iffy cover guy but his tackling is top notch.

We still are ranked about the same defensively as we were last year despite having a mild pass rush, so our coverage unit has to be doing something right as a unit. Some of these 'so-so' QB's had huge plays against elite teams. We bend but we don't break. Being 2nd in the league in pass yards allowed s nothing to sneeze at regardless of who we played. Even elite QB's will have to earn their 300 yard games in a best case scenario.
