Wow, he didn't lose us games....wow! What an accomplishment. Yes, he played well in a Saints game that we had 5 turnovers in. Great.

So, is that really all it takes to impress you?

Meanwhile we got pro bowl QB's who are getting trashed by their fans on a weekly basis.

I don't have any beef with him....but I will talk about his play good or bad. Yall so touchy over this dude. He's a big boy, he can handle it :heh:

Touchy.... LOL.... You the one that felt the need to come after me?

Impressed, yes I'm impressed with how he commanded the offense to put up record breaking numbers last weekend that not even Joe or Steve did, yet alone other current "pro bowl "QB's"
:umad:

All I'm saying dude played very well last year and very well so far this year. I think dude deserves a little break from the wolves

God-Damn, the stats are proof of what I been trying to say, our secondary has improved dramatically.

Yep same here, I was touting Culliver since day one and his improvement and him being the 3rd guy is a gift from God.

Terrell Brown stepped up and Los is Los. Then you look at depth. You could really see it last year in the playoffs, our coverage was getting very good and you saw times QBs had time but just couldn't find anyone open which led to sacks.

I swear at times I think they hope he fails so they`ll be "right". Like being "right" is more important than the team winning.

You can see early on in this thread with people suggesting Kaepernick and shyt and alluding to him taking the job.

It almost begrudges them to cheer for the guy, when in reality I find it damn near impossible not too. He was a victim of the horrible Dr. John York regime just like the fans were, he endured all the bullshyt just like we did with Singletary and Nolan, once he got a good coach he has played very good.

He is a walking metaphor for the team from Nolan til now.

IMO in our loss and the Jets win Alex didn't look good at all. However in the wins against the Pack, Lions, and the Bills he looked great. I can't be mad at his play, but I still feel like his deep ball can be a limitation at times.

I still think we are too quick to judge, this is the first time the guy has ever had the same OC 2 years in a row, and this is only his 2nd year with good coaching. We all know he isn't some elite superstar QB, but we also need to have some patience with the complete development under Harbaugh.

Last year he had 17 TD's, he already got 8 through 5 games and his completion percentage is the highest it's been in his entire career.

Everyone always talks about these "pro bowl QB's" but these guys have had a long time to develop fully

Rivers, Brees, Manning, Ben, Brady, Rodgers, Ryan, Flacco, Schaub

Tell me what they all have in common? Long tenures under one coach/system.

We're in game 23 of the Harbaugh/Smith era and every week it's been trying to pick apart Smith's flaws. Give it a rest.

So apparently, the only thing that separates Alex from elite QB's is familiarity with the system. :heh:

So, Alex will gain pocket pressence, a better deep ball, accuracy and attempt to actually throw guys open? How long will that take?

The reason why people poop on Alex is because we've seen the guy going on 8 years now with one decent season and 6 atrocious ones. Excuse us for not being so easily swayed from a good game against a terrible defense. Also, we still see a lot of the issues in his game that we saw years ago when he was struggling. He's a 49er QB so he will get picked apart.

You look at guys like Romo, Flacco, Ryan, Schaub, etc... guys who are superior to Alex and have consistently put up great numbers and their fans still shyt on them. It's the nature of the bizz. Folk criticized Montana and Young....but can't criticize Alex?

The problem with the Alex debate is I admit that some can be overly critical of him. But on the flipside his "fanboys" blame any and everybody for his poor play. They'll also throw other QB's under the bus to make him look better.

Also, Alex is in his 8th year. No matter how bad you think he has been treated, there are some serious flaws in hsi game that should not be there...and it really has nothing to do with coaching.

Seeing rookies, 2nd and 3rd year guys come in and beast really kills the notion about familiarity with the system. Some guys have it...some guys don't. Alex may have it..but he has a small sample size of good play and a huge one of bad play regardless of the circumstances. I don't see these excuses made for other QB's whom yall say "suck".

People wanted to see Kaep because of the way our offense is built and what is asked of the QB. Kaep also has a much higher ceilling than Alex and brings a different element to the field (legs and arm). He was also picked at the beginning of the 2nd round so he's clearly the QB of the future.

Don't worry, though...if your boy Alex plays like he did in the Bills game consistently against top tier defenses...Kaep will be traded away and Alex will be our starter for years to come.

I just want to win...I don't have an allegiance to any player...if I think there can be an improvement then I'll voice that.

You didn't seem to have a problem when Crabs and the line was getting picked apart last year. Hell, you did it after every game. So, if you have an issue with critiquing our QB's game, then simply ignore it. You really need to get over yourself and quit telling people what they should or should not do. It's fukking annoying.

Not gonna lie I wanna see Kaep start next year. I feel like our offense has the potential to be explosive with a guy with his weapons. If Alex becomes that guy this season I won't be mad but if he doesn't I can see them handing over the keys. It's not completely out of precedent for teams to give a younger the job over a decent starter. Think Mcnabb/Vick, Brees/Rivers.

If they do that he has to be better than Smith, that's the only way i`ll accept that.

I don't care who we win with, but if Kaepernick isn't ready and Alex continues to play like he has, i`d absolutely hate for them to go to Kaepernick on some "This is the guy WE drafted" type of deal

I think you might commit that if Kaep starts.

Alex Smith had some horrendous OCs so mentioning them isn't really making an excuse for him. Jimmy fukkin Raye? I still have nightmares of them splitting the FB out and throwing screen passes to em, seemingly at least once every game.

Turner, McCarthy, Martz

So horrendous!

Jimmy Raye sucked but Alex had his best seasons with him....so explain that. You'd think there's this wealth of top notch co-ordinators around the league. I keep hearing how Romo, Flacco, etc suck...who the fukk are their "great" OC's?

It's just annoying to hear folk throw everyone under the bus in order to prop up or excuse Alex for being a poor QB in the past.

Anywho... Lets talk about Crabs or someone else on the team.

I think the Giants game will be the real test for Alex, but then again he played well against them last year. I think Alex will have a career year barring any injury, and if that happens they will let him play out his contract and then I think Kaep will be ready by then.

I can't really fault Alex so much this year. He's played very well and while I agree he's not a gamebreaker, he's a good, solid QB, which we can rely on to not turn the ball over if we can help it and make plays to the open receivers. I'm also happy about our O-Line which is quickly becoming a top 5 unit and at their relative age will remain so for at least the next 5 years, we are changing the game with our rushing attack, and a coach in Harbaugh that brings out the best in Smith. Also Alex is getting better chemistry with Crabs, and surprisingly Manningham, as well as VD. I mean think about it we haven't even used LaMichal James or Brandon Jacobs, yet.
