Empire strikes back
Nah, Alex is gonna hit the checkdown every time...![]()
whats interesting in the harbaugh era...we barely check down to RBs anymore...gore used to have like 60 receptions per season.

eh...it doesnt get much easier than dumping it off to the RBThis. There doesn't seem to be the RB safety valve that we had in the Sing days. Harbs has made it much easier for him designing all those shallow routes that are Alex's bread and butter.

harbs understands alex's limitations and oline limitations (well now oline is starting to beast but Im talking about before) much better than jimmy raye
I agree with the premise of telling him what to do, I dont agree with harbs wanting alex to be a one-read qb...we saw glimpses of alex going thru progressions last year...too bad I barely if ever saw it this year...What I mean is under Raye it was "find the open guy"..."make a play". With Harbs it's "hit this guy. If he's not open, tuck it and run". Alex is a robot, and Harbs understands that. You have to explicitly tell him what to do. Raye/Sing was more of a chaotic environment where he was expected to make plays. Harbs just asks him to keep a cool head and just execute the gameplan.

absolutely, the offense isnt as simple as it looks. You think he encourages Alex to go through his progressions? I'm not saying he doesn't but...I mean, the dude rarely goes through his progressions and seems like he knows pre-snap where he's going with the ball and if that dude is not open he's bailing.
I figured the offense Harbs runs is what he'd run with a rookie.
absolutely, the offense isnt as simple as it looks.
problem is alex senses pressure when there isnt any too often.
alex is so scared in the pocket unless he gets absolutely clean one like last week he starts panicking and says fukk it to any progression.
but the second seattle game is a good example of him going thru progressions
when alex is confident in pass pro and receivers getting wide separation you have something like last week.
I think right now harbs wants to encourage dude to take his time and not be scared shytless as oline has greatly improved. boone at guard might have been the glue they all needed. also, seems like every other playaction pass works amazingly.
Are we nitpicking Alex just to nitpick Alex at this point? We all know he isn't some elite superstar QB, but do we need to re-hash the same old shyt criticizing the guy every week, especially after a 45-3 win?
Dude is 8/1 for TD's right now and has us @ 4-1. He leads the league in passer rating and we're still trying to find something to nitpick him about?
You can do this to every QB in the NFL none of them are perfect, each one has their flaws. But constantly nit-picking the dude when he is playing good football is just getting ridiculous at this point.
Let's talk about our opponent this week.

we are talking football. is there a rule that says we can't discuss aspects of offense or alex after a good game or something ?
Nah man, I really don't care one way or the other, but you go back to this thread after every game and there's just more banter about "What does Alex Smith do wrong".
It just gets redundant. If we beat NYG it`ll be the same shyt, something about he Alex doesn't do x,y,z right.
