Not a bootstrap if you are on the right path and have clarity. Poverty and dysfunction were the motivation for me to get out and never look back....

And there are millions of black folk that never got their fair shot. Guess they less than human, right? :mjpls:

Guess you better off bleaching your skin with that "fukk black people" mentality.

If you have skills and don't settle for mediocrity, you will always do well. Aim for the bare minimum, then you are SOL.....

No one said to aim low. People just want a fair ahot and not let America fall onto 3rd world poverty where crime and dysfunction is normalized.

I don't blame them but its going to be interesting to see what happens when the federal enhanced unemployment runs out in September. I'm sure you're gonna have a lot of these same folks returning to these same jobs they disavowed if they haven't found something better.

But the attitudes won't be the same. The last places I would be is a workplace where the employees can end your life in an instant. You might as well be in prison at that point.

its not just restaurants.

even hotels are understaffed

I came back from SoCal a few days ago and hotel restaurant and morning buffets were closed due to no staff and rooms couldn’t be serviced everyday due to low staff. Only new linens can be requested.

:hhh:

I understood but I wasn’t trippin. It is what it is.

Nothing is more hilarious than watching people's faces melt when you explain to them what the minimum wage would've been had wages kept pace with inflation. People love to beat their chest about STEM STEM STEM, but when you use math to crush their arguments they want no part of that shyt.

:pachaha:

They hate anything that HELPS the "undesirables".

:francis:hate to ever agree with marxists but yup.

Who would’ve ever thought that capitalism would lead to exploitation of the worker causing widespread alienation until eventually collapsing in upon itself while society moves onto more socialist policies.

Oh every Marxist theorist since the mid-19th century

what a world

So Cal
Eh, what is a liveable wage?

What if the majority of small businesses in an area can't meet what you determine to be a liveable wage within the timeframe you want? Most of them aren't running large profit margins.

Should they strive to get as close as possible or shutdown?

If they do shut down, the vacuum will be filled by large companies that can afford to pay. But they'll also consolidate more power over local/state politics and consumer choice. Companies going out of business is a very much a double edged sword.

That tune will be quite different once unemployment ends in Sept. What's the alternative? Live in the shelters, off the grid, with family?

They will come to their senses.....

The lawsuit against the State government in Indiana in regards to the early end of unemployment benefits shows an inkling of how far people are willing to go.

Civil means at first before things escalate..people are not willing to be exploited anymore by this sham of an economy and this is coming from a business owner. It’s ridiculous that when I was 18 in 1997, the minimum wage was $5.15..which was ABSURD even back then and has only gone up by $2.10 over TWENTY FOUR YEARS. Back then, you needed to be making at LEAST $11-12 dollars an hour (in the South) to live somewhat comfortably..you have some companies NOW offering this as a starting wage. Nope. Whilst inflation and corrupt corporate partnership with government have made it nearly impossible for citizens to live. An economy that CANNOT provide its workers the means to live over time WILL UNDOUBTEDLY collapse upon itself as people begin to revolt. Not in immediate shambles as @Wild self proclaims but it CAN inevitably get there!

I’ve said on here that by the rate of inflation at the moment that the minimum wage should really be at around 18-19 dollars an hour but you’ll never see this because the economy has been gamed so throughly over decades that increases in pay would potentially harm companies.

This isn’t fair even though there is some truth to it.

Leaving it solely up to employers to determine minimum wage isn’t their responsibility even though some (like myself) can read the tea leaves and set a ceiling as they so desire for wages.

This is a government issue and for YEARS the Bureau of Labor Statistics (the US Government) has been putting out straight BULLshyt in regards to many sectors of the economy which in turn mislead corporate entities who USE THAT DATA to determine the ceiling for wages in a geographic region.. EVEN THOUGH goddamn Ray Charles as a CEO could see the problem between the data the government puts out and fukking reality itself in regards to costs of living and so on.

It puts enormous pressure on businesses (especially small to medium) ones to enact change on a level like this regarding wages that shouldn’t really shouldn’t be there and this has been the case really since the fukking 70’s and really took off with Reagan..look at how slow State and the Federal Government have been in addressing this wage shyt! It’s preposterous.

Yeah, retail jobs are meant for pocket change for students, retired seniors, not to make a career out of it in your prime years....

You know what this is? Your OPINION. shyt ain’t fact. I agree that people should strive for more.. but everyone’s book ain’t written the same.

Florida, Iowa, Montana, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Idaho.

All those states have already done away with the federal plus up on their unemployment. Guess what? ALL of those states have seen an INCREASE in unemployment applications.

People are tired of being abused by the system. This is them fighting back. They may take hits in the short term, but they’re hoping for change. This is how you do it. They know that.

one important factor is the irregular hours/shifts involved with retail jobs

There are studies that show that kind of "just in time" schedule increases depression and stress, and leads to negative behavioral outcomes for children who grow up in households where they don't know if mommy will be home to help them with hw or not.

People say they would take a pay cut to have a stable schedule. How are you supposed to go to school when you don't know your shift until the day of?
