DMX Turned Agony and Atomic Energy Into One of Rap’s Most Titanic Legacies

"At a time when rap flows remained largely staccato, relying on outside hooks for commercial viability, X handled it all himself. A close listen of his debut reveals subtly complex black lung melodies; he was both the last great rough, rugged, and raw ‘90s rapper, and a harbinger of the harmonic pop sensibilities that would dominate the next generation."

Thought this was a great point, X really had some fire hooks: Ruff Ryders Anthem, Ain't No Way, Whats My Name, Party Up, It's All Good, Let Me Fly, Hows It Goin Down, Where the Hood At, Slippin, We Right Here, etc., etc. He had the perfect balance of raw and grimy yet catchy and melodic hooks and really doesn't get enough credit for it.

Yeah X was always singing. He was a fan of music in general before hip hop came to be. One of his favorite songs as a kid was silver shadow.

So being able to put together catchy hooks and melody and knowing where to put certain bars all comes from being in love with music.

It’s slowly hitting me. I loved most of DMX movies too. I would watch em whenever they play em on showtime or HBO. This new decade been rough personally. I lost my big brother, my grandmother and friend to covid plus my uncle. Now with the celebs like Kobe and DMX, people I remember rising to their stardom and see their lights fade. It’s a humbling experience. Enjoy your days folks. If you love someone, tell them. Before it’s over

Stay strong brother, these times are testing you but you can make it through. More power to you breh
