Real shyt, DMX, No Limit, and Cash Money was my life raft in a sea of Diddy inspired bullshyt I can’t thank him enough. The visuals of the video, the wild ad libs, the distinct raspy voice, the energy, this song launched dog like a fukkin space rocket.

For real. Had everyone barking and spitting some next level verses. Straight up shut down Puffy's shiny suits and commercial structured songs.

A great youtube comment I read just now:

Anyone ever realise X was an addict his whole life but never promoted or gave drugs a name in his songs. He preached against their use yet they consumed the poor man for most of his life. R.I.P X

Seriously. Listening to X in my adolescence is why I detest the likes of Future so much. X was genuine, showed mad love to authentic people, gave back to kids and schools, preached in churches, loved his fans, and helped out so many people working in physically demanding jobs. When has your favorite Trap rapper done anything close to that?

X could have been a preacher and would have brought joy upon everyone. His life is a fireball of a journey.

I'm glad we grew up in an era where nobody was trying to 'cancel' anything

this new generation soft, and the attention seeking shyt is lame

I swear, I always be baffled at how so many in our generation grew up to be so bytchmade? We was listening to X, CMR, No Limit, Three 6, Hov, Nas, Cam, all these hard acts but nikkaz listen to weak ass Drake rockin tight jeans and cancel each other on some moral police Puritan shyt.

I can safely say my clothes stayed loose and baggy, my music stayed hard, and unless you’re a full blown racist or rapist I don’t give a fukk about you enough to go on a cancel crusade. Ima keep staying away from IG and all that other shyt cuz I really think social media turned a lot of us out.

All those nikkas barring Jay at times promoted nothing but things that are detrimental to black people though.

I knew this day was coming it’s like X had a terminal illness battling substance abuse with his troubled childhood and the people around him not helping by introducing him to drugs.

as I said before X got me into Hiphop and I’m sad I never saw him live but I’m happy I was able to enjoy his music whilst he was alive

Unlike Pac and Big because although I was alive I wasn’t really old enough to understand hip hop nor did we have someone in my household to introduce it to me. I feel like X foresaw his death with the video Slippin it’s like Eminem’s toy soldiers foreshadowing Proof’s death it will be hard to watch the video for some time without shedding tears.

When Bout shyt dropped I had hope

Doom’s death made me go back and listen to X:mjcry::mjcry::mjcry: it’s like I saw it coming

:rip:
It’s the end of an era brehs we keep losing too many legends

Its like this: too many Hip Hop pics of old where multiple artists are in the same pic, there are instances where we reached now in 2021, 2 or more artists in that pic are gone :rip:

Father time waits for no one. Just say we love and appreciate everyone you happen to know, when you still got a chance.

Maybe I had enough older real nikkaz around me for context but I personally connected more with songs about the struggle or painting pictures of the uglier side of things. I was never the biggest fan of creating comfortable illusions.

Plus we gotta be honest, the white executives in charge were the ones promoting negative things. Rap music went from being a therapeutic and cathartic experience and expression of the trauma felt since at least the early 70s. To me, it feels like the kinda logic you presenting is the reason why artists like Drake can flourish or rappers can rock dresses with no consequence. Portrayal of what these whites did = detrimental but promoting empty headed escapism and politically/culturally impotent music = better?

Blame the strip club and tricking culture. They made the young dudes soft and afraid of true masculinity.
