If you older than 15 you should be able to look at a battle objectively and take your feelings outta it as a fan who’s not directly connected to either artist, I let all that ride for your side shyt die a couple years after Pac and Big, that’s one regret I have about my hip hop listening experience is I never listened to Ready To Die, Life After Death, Reasonable Doubt, Hell On Earth and a couple other classics in full until probably late 98. I remember thinking at the time in retrospect I fukked up not experiencing them in real time with everyone else and I didn't have the same connection to the songs or some of the quotable's as my peers did cause I missed out on it purposefully in the moment. The only thing I don't like about that match up is X never dropped a proper response record and we the listeners never got a balanced back and forth between the 2, but shyt, X and Kurupt squashed that 20 years ago and got over it, anyone holding onto that shyt now is crazy lol. But yeah I refuse to retire that song cause now that X is gone, its one of the hardest diss records of all time and its a part of hip hop history, that said I definitely am not gonna be bumping it today or anytime soon.Ok so I remember first hearimg of D on Ma$e's Album and my Ears kinda Perked up especially since it was during a Post Pac/Biggie World of Hip Hop. I remember visiting NYC Winter 97 and seeing Mixtapes with his Name next to say Canibus and The Lox but I was skeptical on coppin cause some of the ones I would cop prior had songs that was on Retail joints and I didnt know about the Reputable NY DJs at that time so I was just looking at any old Tape on that CarpetSo in 98 I remember seeing this Flyer with him on it and mentioning the Song" Get at Me Dog" on it and I didnt hear it yet until I saw the Video and I went and got the Single wit Stop Being Greedy(which would Lock me in as a Fan as well as his Verse on Money Power Respect) and a Freestyle joint wit The Lox as the B Sides
When the Album dropped I remember being able to get the Homies who had No Limit joints spinning and throw it in the Rotation during NBA Live Runs and just fukking wit it laying the Foundation for when Flesh Of My Flesh dropped which it dropping that same Year was a Shock
Of course he(as well as the next Gen of Def Jam 98)being the Voltron Head who ushered in a New Era of Rap post Pac/Big,The Source Cover wit the Class of 98,RR Vol 1,The Kurupt Beef()Belly left so many memories which is why I kinda say 98 was a GOAT Rap Year
Salute to The Greatest,You are Ready To Meet Him now
:Calling Out Names hit my Spotify Random recently and I kinda did say the MOTHERfukk DMX part but low and to myself because even tho things been Squashed the Song is Fire
Salute on your sobriety g, more strength to youDMX was a real 1, him & Pac were the only rappers that made you feel every word they spit man....
I’ve been sober for nearly 6 months but I might pour 1 out for Dark Man X today...
Rest In Power...
You’ll be missed & celebrated through your music forever..
people already said this here, but NORE got DMX on drink champs earlier last month and NORE got DMX drinking and smoking again...which is bad given how easily X gives into temptation and can relapse into harder drugs under the assumption that he's fine...every Drink Champ's set is littered with vices to choose from, X cannot refuse given that everything was in front of him -- even when the camera cuts away from them using it
NORE should have known better given X's history of substance abuse but he still wanted to have a good time with X for old times' sake, the interview, "entertainment value", smh
but then again, DMX should have gone to some psychotherapist along with rehab a long time ago to cure himself of those past demons, etc to not involve himself with hard drugs ever again
NORE can still have a show without drinking and smoking while talking heavy hip hop stuff, just look at Cam's last sober interview (in fact, NORE's show is even blacklisted on youtube from showing up on your recommendations because it involves drinking and smoking -- NORE's show would get way more views had they removed all that), but NORE's show is built around the concept that people would let loose and say things they wouldn't have said had they not been under the influence (like a hip hop version of Hot Ones, but the guests come prepared because they seen past footage of what other guests have done to not do that)....overall, that show is terrible for guests who have no self control
people need to seek therapy (with the right professional, because some are garbage, or empty out the past with trusting friends) and not think it's a wuss thing to do...X endured everything he's been through until the end.
DMX was shown flowers, was given love, but still indulged himself with hard drugs..people are paying tribute with feelgood stories and makeshift eulogies just to jump on some bandwagon, but they never address the root cause or the underlying truth of what caused X's behavior to be fully functional yet still can't shake his past or addictions. fukk, man. RIP X
