Im not following you.
I didnt say anything about whether or not doom has ever been a horror game.
It seems like you're catching the tail end of the conversation.
I'm explaining to Mowgli that it's difficult to make a video game legitimately scary if the player consistently has an abundance of ammo and never really feels a sense of danger.
That's not to say that it has to be a run and hide simulator but I think it's best for horror games to be limited in terms of weapons and ammo.

but why would you bring up doom for that lol, re4 would be a better example

no problem tho, i got a bit confused

RE7 supposedly has a 15 hour campaign. (I feel like that's short but I don't remember how long the other RE games are)
I'll be doing my first play through entirely with the PSVR. I'm going in with the expectation of only playing an hour at a time.

classic re's were usually under 10 hours for the first playthrough and under 5 for subsequent playthroughs when you knew what you were doing. re4 and re6 (maybe code veronica) are the only mainline games i think are longer than 7.

Resident Evil 7 Will Be a Play Anywhere Title on Windows 10
David Dominguez / 1 min ago

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, confirmed today that the Windows 10 Store version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be part of Microsoft’s Play Anywhere program. Gamers who purchase the survival horror title on the Windows Store will be able to play it on both their Windows 10 PC and their Xbox One platform without paying extra money. Of course, this offer does not include the Steam version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, as Microsoft has no control over that platform.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard is the next major entry in the renowned Resident Evil series and sets a new course for the franchise as it leverages its roots and opens the door to a truly terrifying horror experience. A dramatic new shift for the series to first person view in a photorealistic style powered by Capcom’s new RE Engine, Resident Evil 7 delivers an unprecedented level of immersion that brings the thrilling horror up close and personal.

Set in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil® 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective. Resident Evil 7 embodies the series’ signature gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago; meanwhile, a complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to the next level.

RE1, 2, 3, CV, 0 had a legitimate sense of danger in it. You had weapons but you weren't fully stocked. Maybe 20 handgun bullets, 5 shotgun shells and a knife. That's on your best day. You still felt like you could get got because the control scheme and engine felt designed around that. RE5/6 were action games. 4 action too but it still was a teeny bit scary at times.. A game doesn't need to be Outlast to be scary.

RE games weren't that long if I remember. I replayed them to death though. I'd play RE2 and beat it daily.

Im still confused on this game.. does it have the plagus? Or zombies? Does it take place after 6? Its like i dont know shyt about it
"The game is set in 2017, approximately 4 years after the events of Resident Evil 6 in the fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana in the Southern United States. It features a new protagonist named Ethan Winters, a civilian who offers fewer combat skills than most previous Resident Evil main characters.[2] Ethan is searching for his missing wife, Mia, which leads him to a derelict plantation mansion, home of the Baker family."
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - Wikipedia

From what they've shown in quick cuts during commericials, it looks like it'll have the plague type enemies like RE4 and some of the traditional monsters.

molded are the new BOWs. you can fight one in the basement of the demo. It takes place in June 2017, so it along with the new movie are the latest events in the series chronology.

I agree. I didn't say it had to be like outlast to be scary, I just was making the point to mowgli that it's difficult to make a game scary without limiting the player's access to weapons.
You know how Mowgli is. He'll tell you a game is trash if he can't kill every enemy with one shot from a triple barrel shot gun from 40 feet away.

In the past RE games, when you found bullets or a new weapon, it was a ":whew: thank GOD" feeling and u felt your confidence go up a little.

In the new RE games since, finding weapons/bullets was more like "ok cool more bullets/oh shotgun nice" and u were on your way. Didn't matter since u could rambo punch your way through hordes of zombies.
