I asked the mods to ban me years ago on Gaf because I could not vibe with that place. It was obvious a one sided affair if you get my drift . Plus, I know that place wasn't going to last long because Evilore was moving sloppy as hell. Like the time he bushed the BCT, and some of the mods were like .

Nope, could not do it. Always knew NeoGAF was on some and i do not like games enough to put up with that shyt.

That's all I'm trying to say. I personally find them insufferable, so I stopped reading, but I can still understand their zealousness in "protecting" that community. It's why I don't really care too much. It's one place outta thousands, trying to make a group of people whom are constantly mocked and ridiculed, feel comfortable. I honesty don't know why that bothers people so much.

This is a mature take and I respect it. I think Era means well, but in that effort to be virtuous they end up becoming exactly what they hate. They also use that space to spread hate and attack people unfairly, just like what they claim is being done to them.

Again, I think other boards could take a page from their book in terms of active moderation, avoiding redundant troll topics and thread derails. This board doesn't punish trolls and shytposting so actual game discussion and anticipation gets trampled with derail and dapfish attempts. It ends up hurting the quality of discussion and forum traffic in the end. I still lurk Era because the game discussions are lively as hell, Gfaqs and GAF are worse and I don't like the Reddit format. Era just goes overboard with suppressing anything that challenges their narrative, so it's fun to pick at them for being lame and point it out

I actually think discussion in game specific threads is usually really good. There's only so many games active at any given time though so the board gets cluttered with trolling and people bullshytting. To be honest, there wouldn't be enough to discuss otherwise.

Splitting this from The Film Room was a mistake, imo.

There are plenty of games to discuss. I post threads about AA games, indie games, and games by Black developers all the time but a lot of those threads get crickets.

The truth is, most people on the Arcadium are only interested in specific types of AAA games

And you can combine the Arcadium with the Film Room again by changing forum settings.

The indie thread should be pinned. We don't have enough posters actively playing lesser known games for indie/AA game threads to survive.

Keep a thread or two dedicated to them pinned and more eyeballs will hit them.

honestly, him trying to erase all of his connection of him to that piece of shyt amirox despite being his biggest enabler instead of simply denouncing him was a sign the neogaf experiment was coming to an end. not to mention he had already given the gay and trans community damn near free reign over there before the end

If you search all the comments, 60% of them would be about some irrelevant console war nonsense, this isn't a good place to talk about gaming outside personal anecdotes and jokes, the discussion here is worse than r/games

My point was, threads shouldn't just be about news or new releases, I'd like to see more in depth discussion on the culture/industry, mechanics, artistic choices in games like music and writing. Gaming is a hobby, but videogames are also an art form.

TLoU discussion on Era is funny. There are two threads for the show's discussion. One for the gaming side(open spoilers for games) and a show only thread for the etc side. A few posters in the gaming thread brought up the subject of how black ppl are treated in regards to the game/show, which seem like valid critiques. Some posters were so bothered by the topic even being brought up, they went to the show only thread to "get away".
Why would you feel you need to get away from that dialog?

All the problems they had with the thread, the black issue being brought up was the final straw huh?

He gave some answer saying 1. "I just dont think it's that deep" and 2. "Alt right already bash it for it's consideration of others"
1. Just because you have a shallow ass mind, doesnt mean it's not that deep to others. These probably the same ppl that saw nothign wrong with black ppl dying first in movies, but also want to bring up how movies/shows do the "Bury Your Gays" trope and understand that being a problem

2. "Consideration of others" obviously means the show/game is LGBT friendly. Just because you feel they do that right doesnt mean they are shielded from criticism on how black characters are treated. But you got yours, so fukk everyone else though right?

We're just not as enthusiastic or passionate about games here.

Era has a 200 post thread on Zelda Minish Cap on GBA (which got released on NSO this week) on the first page. A 20 year old game with tons of discussion, takes and passion about it.

I could make the same thread here and get maybe 5 or 6 replies at most. That's what draws a lot of people to Era, but then the forum politics kick in and end up ruining the vibe
