huh? I would completely get rid of the income tax if i had it my way.

Consumptive taxes are regressive by nature (because poor people have to spend more of their income of necessities) and income taxes (which are progressive) help balance them out.

Getting rid of the income tax essentially puts more of the tax burden on poor people.

This may be a hard concept for right-wing types to understand but it's 100% true.

:mindblown: It's as if none of you realize the government is in debt and can't afford to care for people... Literally it can't afford to do the things you want it to do...
We can't afford, war, we can't afford entitlements, we can't afford corporate welfare, any of it.
shyts gonna be tough, but it's how it has to be...

I don't think anyone expected welfare to be a permanent thing. It was supposed to be temporary help until you got back on your feet but now it seems as if more people are opting to stay off their feet. I'm not saying there aren't legitimate families out there who won't eat if their food stamps are cut but there are also some able bodied people flat out abusing the system and I really thing we (black people) have seen more examples of abuse than anything. If you've ever purchased food stamps you've participated in abuse.

There was just a bunch of stores here in Baltimore that got hit with foodstamp trafficking. Somehow they were letting people charge non food items in exchange for cash or something crazy. I wish the government would focus more on training...the people that are easy employable or require mimimal traning, try to get them working a decent salary job and after 2 years, cut them off. Easier said than done I know but either way I'm in favor of the cut.

you guys are seriously worried about people selling food stamps and these guys are literally making trillions of dollars disappear into thin air, but you're worried about Shaquan selling her food stamps for 50 bucks?

you're pissed of at your fellow slave for stealing pennies when master is fukking robbing you both blind at a rate in a disproportionately larger amount than the number of people selling their food stamps, whether it's to buy junk food or assist pay the light bill, no ones complaining about the guys stealing enough money to buy islands, boats and properties around the world.

You're concerned about money and I'm concerned about people. There is no reason that generations should be receiving food stamps. I'd rather see fighting for career development with pathways to decent paying jobs than raising the fukking salary for fast food work.

That's part of the purpose of SNAP.

:snoop:

All around you just don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I'm not sure what raising the salary of fast food workers has to do with SNAP.
I'll tell you one thing it would increase the quality of life for those people.
If you care about people like you say you're concerned.

The thing is, it's a minority of people that are actually on food stamps for more than a generation. Also, a large percentage of people on food stamps also have jobs. In New York City for example, many homeless people actually have multiple jobs. I get what you mean about decent paying salaries at more "respectable" jobs, but I don't think that and a higher minimum wage are mutually exclusive. Also, the economy is in a bad spot and fast food places are some of the few places that are hiring, so it makes sense to target that as a place to raise minimum wage. Middle income jobs have been the slowest to return in this post-recession economy.

Many people I know working in the retail / fast food industries are far from being content, government hand out, leeching savages, yet they use these services. One cat I know has been cashier for about 6 years now, and barely makes $11.20, in Los Angeles.

Many of these people inherently try to go back to school(trade, state or cc), but external factors often make it extremely hard( work shifts, kids, car breaks down, bad public transportation system). Like one of the most enlighten cats on the board @TrueEpic08 once said, no one wants to be on SNAP, and if there's a better option, people in unfair predicaments will take it.

You've got to put some of these guys on ignore, it's not worth it.

More people are willing to jump if there is a safety net. I'm saying shrink the net so fewer people jump, and you're saying people are going to jump, so we need a big net to catch all of them.

I don't think the difference in our approach to this can be looked at in a simple right or wrong way...

Nor do I think either position is retarded.

sohh bro what's your stance on this:

Not sure what, you mean?
I agree with it, and I would love to hear a valid argument against it, that didn't rely on emotion.

On a side note: the fact that many of you would view a $100min wage as retarded says you do understand how it adversely affects the economy, you are just trying to see how high it can go before it breaks us lol
