It's a little bit of both. She knew how to assess credible threats, and handle them quietly.

AOC and them were ready to get her out the paint, but she worked out a deal with them as soon she heard about it, months before the vote for Speaker went down.

McCarthy's situation is a little different since he's trying to bring people in line that have absolutely no intent to negotiate in good faith, but it speaks to how bad he is in comparison. She would've figured out she wasn't getting these votes a month ago, and worked on getting a deal done in a different way.
