US-Haitian elected officials request 'urgent' meeting with Biden
nh-orange-logo-v3.png

A group of more than 200 current and former Haitian-American elected officials are reaching out to the Biden administration and requesting an “urgent” meeting to discuss U.S. policy toward the Caribbean nation in the wake of the assassination of the country’s president.

In a letter sent Friday to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and obtained by The Hill, the National Haitian-American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) requests a briefing on the administration’s approach to Haiti amid the country's political turmoil, ongoing plague of gang violence and struggle against COVID-19.

The group said they are “weary and frustrated” over the lack of engagement from the Biden administration on the issue, despite an established relationship addressing the president’s decision in May to extend for 18 months Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians residing in the U.S.

“We have been working to build a relationship with the Biden administration vis-a-vis its foreign policy towards Haiti. While we are pleased with President Biden’s extension of TPS, we grow weary and frustrated with the lack of communication of the ongoing instability in Haiti,” reads the letter, signed by NHAEON Chairperson Alix Desulme.

“NHAEON members are the elected representatives closest to the Haitian community and have a keen understanding of the dynamics in Haiti and its impact on our communities. We are ready to work with you to add value to the trajectory of U.S. Foreign policy towards Haiti. To this end, we are requesting immediate scheduling of a briefing with your office on the aforementioned issues.”

The organization, which was founded in 2009, includes Haitian-American elected officials from across the country but are largely concentrated in Florida, New York and New Jersey. The elected positions range from school boards, city council, attorney generals, mayors and state representatives, to name a few. Desulme is a council member in North Miami.

In an interview with The Hill on Friday, Desulme said that NHAEON members are expected to meet with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on Monday, in a previously scheduled meeting to discuss ways to assist Haiti’s response to the pandemic.

NHAEON has met with Haiti’s ambassador to the U.S., but Desulme expressed frustration over the lack of engagement from the Biden team.

“We’re going to send this letter to the administration and see,” he said

it’s like Miami Cuban discussing about whats going on in Cuba. They will always support the US and the US funded opposition in they mother nation
Word I been reading up on this on Twitter

Seems like a huge disconnect between Haitians and Haitian-Americans on this guys perception :dwillhuh:

Depends who you speak to. Rich Haitians (in Haiti) most likely don't think too bad of Moise. Poorer Haitians (in Haiti) most likely speak bad on Moise. But not all, but a significant number.

Haitian-Americans can be all over the place.

Haitians in general are not that politically sophisticated.

Most Haitians only care about their family & Jesus.

Thats why I dont understand why nikkas in the thread are banging for political parties.

You could bribe a Haitian politician for cheap.

I seen a group of nikkas singing and dancing outside a courthouse in support of Reginald Boulous.... They probably got paid $20 for that.... Thats basically Haitian politics in a nutshell... its a joke.

The diaspora needs its own political party to bulldoze everybody out the way.

We already have our own money and we dont need funding from the boujwa.

Menm nèg ki tap rele aba Jovenel yo kounye la yo menm ankò ki ap fè chante pou di R.I.P. Jovenel. :snoop:

Now all I can hope for is that we don’t do the typical Haitian shyt and finish off the electrical grid projects he started. The typical Haitian shyt being whoever comes after him if they werent down With him they’ll let everything stand still and die rather than let it finish and Jovenel gets the credit . Just like those abandoned hospitals that were built under Preval and are just there collecting dust and growing weeds since Martelly regime didn’t fukk with Lavalas.

Jovenel ppl are still carrying on with his projects. Jovenel main priority was to fix the electric and road issues for the pep en deyo.

I seen a big march happened in Port-De-Paix and folks were chanting for the arrest of the boujwa. :blessed:

North Haiti been holding it down with the revolutionary energy for 200 years strong.

The only good thing about this situation is that eyes have been opened and everybody has their energy pointed towards the elite families.

I heard someone say that Port De Paix has to be re-named to Port De Guerre

Don't let what happens in PauP fool you. The folks outside of PauP knew what Jovenel was doing for them.

Aristide touches down, police chief not releasing assassination tape (but honestly, who would), core group reversing transitional gov't policy, and FBI may be taking evidence related to the assassination away from Haitian officials.

Wild week.
I don’t know if it was mentioned but this Seal tried to assassinate the President a while back. That was foiled and covered up.

the Seal’s name is Chris Osman
30 or so Colombian veterans chilling in Port AU Prince?? Believe me CIA knew

Shyt crazy right ? They wasn’t even talking what was going down in Haiti the last ten years but now they schoolers. ...

They didn’t even know Haiti was under the US proxy UN -occupation or that Haiti is now run by the Core Group since the 2004 coup.

Jovenel committed massacres. Co-signed Trump. Abandon Haitian-Dominicans who were get cleansed in DR. Abandon Haitian immigrants in the US

It’s like they know they don’t know anything about Haiti political structure or system history(the last 40 years) but they act like they do. Useful idiots

Jovenel committed massacres. Co-signed Trump.

Was he a puppet or was he an autocrat-dictator? You cannot be both at the same time

Autocrats answer to nobody.... Dessalines was an autocrat.... He answered to nobody and killed whoever he wanted.

Jovenel was originally appointed to power as a puppet.... everyone agrees on that.... So shouldnt we point the energy to the puppet masters? The US government? The elite families?

I'm only asking this question because you were down-playing the elite families in the beginning of the thread saying they dont have any power.... and thats very suspect to me.

And I notice alot of Haitian "leftists" been playin dumb and providing cover for the elite families since the assassination.

Why all this energy for the puppet and not the alleged puppet masters?

Thats why I say Haitian politics is bogus.

Jovenel is dead and I'm still hearing stories of murder and kidnapping, so whos behind it now?

Go at the puppet masters.
