Garfield always kinda been extra lightweight (tho it was my fav as a young bul) so deconstructing it to an extistential nightmare like that came out of nowhere. Garfield w/o Garfield is an accidental masterpiece very much along the same vibe.

Peanuts was real good for this in a less overt way. This strip was one of the last schultz made before he passed
