Just finished.
Not bad. A few high points, a few low points. Mostly good and entertaining. Some really old references and such, but Redman is still nice The production is uneven, and the vibe is...different. Better than I expected after the singles. The skits...best in the game, as usual. The Obama skit was ass, though. That may have worked back when this album was supposed to come out originally, over a decade ago. The Sooperman Lover plot was ehh, also, but cool.
The worst flaw about the album....
The TITLE.
Calling this Muddy Waters Too set an unrealistic expectation, and Redman is just an entirely different person, whch is fine. There's nothing on here remotely as hard as Iz He 4 Real, Rock Da Spot or Case Closed. There is no funk, no "Mud". Good weed raps, as always, but that's not for everyone. This has a Gospel and Club feel, which works in spots, but it's not for me. The guests all did well. I'll probably go back to a third to a half, the rest, probably never again unless I'm in a certain mood. If he called this something else, it would get a much better response, but I assume it's for the attention the title brings. Good effort. Red is still Red, but IMHO I think he nees to get past whatever the issue with Erick is, or get with some people who can bring the best out of him if this isn't his retirement album, which I hope isn't the case.
3.5 mics, 5th best album behind the 1st 4.
