Hands down one of the best albums of the 90's....How the hell could The Source give it 3 mics???

competition was just that tough back then. I wouldn't say it's one of the best albums of the 90s. Good album in its own right, with highlight tracks... but the album as a whole isn't amazing. 3 mics is a little harsh. I would have given it 3.5. But certainly no more if you're being honest with yourself. Cuban Linx got 4.5, and that's in a whole other stratosphere than Dah Shinin

Naa buddy....we aint talking about the KRS album that came out in 95 or the Das efx album that came out in 95.....Or Junior Mafias first album....or KOOl G Raps 456 album........we talking about Dah Shining......It was the competition. Buckwtown was everywhere in my neck of the woods.....Sound Bwoy Burial :whew:

As soon as that intro came in the whole mood changed. I'll never forget late 95 hearing Sound Boi Burial in The Tunnel......

And fukk the Source...they gave Made Mens album 4.5 and Lil Kims 4th album 5 mics. :camby:

This was the album that opened the doors for gansgter rap.

It was so hyped in 1991 and when it finally dropped it was eh!!....Everyone was expecting this album to overshadow NWAs album but it didnt and by the end of 1991 NWA had the bigget album that year.....And then the flood gates for Gansgter Rap were open with 1992 being the bridge. It had a few bangers but was no where near the level of the previous 2.

but that's my point: Sound Bwoy Buriell is fukking brilliant and a rap anthem. "Stand Strong" is also fantastic.

But lettuce be reality - can you say the entire album is brilliant? There are other strong cuts I didn't mention but there's also stuff like Timz N Hood Chek, Wrektime and KIM that are meh. They fit with the album but not exactly memorable. Besides, the album didn't really have any "vulnerable" moments where the emcee stops being hard and just says some real ass personal shyt. You need that kinda shyt (and do it exceptionally well) to creep past the 4 mic mark.

:shaq2:

If KIM isn't memorable then why did the term KIM catch on afterwards when refering to "Keep It Moving"

Hence 3 years later after in the movie Belly, Method Man and his crew leave Sinceres house after scaring T Boz, Meth says "KIM my nikkas"

:dahell: Straight Outta Compton was 3 years prior. Gangsta rap was well established by 91.

I can still bump this album start to finish

One from each region. Jamal is my go-to album for threads like these. Love that joint, and I NEVER see it talked about anywhere.
The Dayton Family:gladbron::myman:.
I'll take your Dayton Family and raise you Esham

His subject matter can be :merchant: for some, but his rhymes and beats are on point. You can put Dead Flowers in and let ride. Closed Casket is more grimy, Dead Flowers is more polished production wise. Black Orchid :ohlawd:
GOAT titty bar song.

gangster Rap wasnt dominant in no 89 fool.....I'm talking about the gansgter rap takeover which happened in 93. De La, Hammer, Will Smith, Kid N Play, Heavy D were still more popular after Straight Outta Compton.......In 93 thats when you had The Chronic, Cypress Hills 2nd album, Strictly 4 My nikkaz, Doggystyle, G Rap doing that mafioso rap, Wu Tang, Onyx and Boss. Even LL was now doing 14 Shots to the dome... 93 is when Cursin wreckless on albums became the norm....It wasnt the norm in 89.

They invented the slang "keep it moving?"

Either way, we're talking about the song, not the slang. When was the last time you heard people lose their mind over the song KIM? :comeon:
