Yes. Kids are handed diplomas without earning them all the time. Standards and expectations lower every year.
Reminds me of my world history course in college, the professor was more interested in the big ideas associated with the concepts vs remembering dates and facts. A highlight of my undergrad years was seeing two late 20's brehs debating about whether Frederick iii of Prussia was enlightened or not. I wish I had thought to video record that moment.

I attribute it to a culture that pretends to care about education, but doesnt actually care about education.
