ill assume germany wins the cup, as they are the favorite now. in my lifetime in the world cup they will have 2 titles, 3 runner ups, and 2 3rd place finishes. brazil has 2 titles and 1 runner up in the same time frame. but brazil is the powerhouse club? :what:who is more consistently solid than germany?

I get that ppl were treated terribly so Brazil could ensure this Cup....but even if they won it all, how would that be justified?

These ppl would still be on the street and in ditches win or lose., and that's really the shame of it all.
Yea but it would all be hidden by the fact that they just won the the world cup. Instead of Homeless people in rags, you'd see happy homeless people in free Brazil 2014 World Cup champion T-shirts.

I guess winning the winning the world cup would've brought the nation together for a couple weeks until half the people realized they can't afford a pot to piss in.

If Germans lose, they go back to having medical and work benefits, world class education, world class infrastructure, factories, vibrant economy, a government that works, labor rights, low corruption.

Brazil...well now they wake up to the state of their country, their new debt and the realization that they have to host the Summer Olympics in two years despire being far behind schedule on the venues and funding.

This loss isn't just a sports loss, it has real world implications.
They're going to turn the stadiums into prisons after the games and just lock up all the nikkas thats hating. White supremacy.

:salute:Well put my man. This is the type of loss that rocks the fabric of a country for generations to come--in a myriad of ways, as you've so eloquently stated.

Is it wrong that I nonetheless :heh: during the entire match?

No lie. When they started cutting to the shots of everyone crying, I was laughing my ass off. Like, wtf!? :lolbron:

Then my coworker explained the ramifications...

Well many of these poor people dont care about the World Cup anyway. Some of the poor ones they interviewed didnt care at all.

it's like assuming every American watches the Superbowl. It's only 1 day a year, but some ppl could care less

But you can't compare it to the Superbowl, the teams don't represent the entire nation.

The best way I can put it is, it would've been just like after 9/11 when people put aside their bullshyt and hatred for each other for like 3 days. Not everyone did this, but enough that it was the story on the news until the we want vengeance for this tragedy wave kicked in.

Basically that's what I think would've happened if Brazil would've won

I'm not trying to compare 9/11 to winning a sport, but it's the only thing that I could think of that touched America as whole to the magnitude the world cup touches Brazil.

- Brazilians love their soccer as we all know. More than any other country loves anything.
- It's a home game.
- They fukked their economy just to host the WC. Jacked up public transportation and gas costs, cut education and health care spending, displaced thousands of Brazilians living in favelas, rushed building much of the infrastructure needed to host it, and ignored the protests of millions of unhappy Brazilians.
- The last time they hosted the WC they lost 1-0 in the final and they've been waiting 64 years to host it again and win on home soil.
- They got their backs blown out.
- It's a legacy-changing loss. Everything, how they play the game, how they coach the game, how they develop their young players, will have to change.

I can't think of any L that compares to this. Shoutout to @AkaDemiK .

The only thing from 9/11 I'm trying to compare to this is how it touches the ENTIRE nation, not the tragic loss of life compared to winning a sport.

You can't use basketball or football because it doesn't bring together the nation like a World Cup victory would've brought together Brazil.

The Miami Heat just lost the title, everyone is either shytting on the Heat or caping for them right now, there's no unity, patriotism, or sense of comradely from this.

The Seahawks Just won the superbowl, everyone is shytting on either shytting on Peyton Manning or waiting for the next Richard Sherman soundbite. Against there is no patriotism or comradely from this.

Kings just won the World Cup... Barely anyone even knows this

FSU just won the title... I wonder what Jameis is doing now?

You don't think if Brazil would've won the World Cup people would've pushed aside their problems for a couple of days to enjoy the only sport that means anything in that country? That team represented what their nation sacrificed in order to be the stage of world cup and a win on their home soil would've been monumental.

Reading this thread was very informative. I knew it was bad but not that bad. I thought Brazil would be partially forgiven because from what I understand (novice) their two best players were hurt/suspended.

I always had a feeling that Brazil getting the WC and the Olympics was like they wanted to show the world that they had arrived on the stage of big nations, and somewhat felt they were moving too fast. I've never been to Brazil but something told me they were growing too fast and it was an appearance, the issues surrounding the WC and this now historic collapse feel that way now.

Anyway when taking into account all the historical ramifications, the fact that Brazil basically is futbol, I can't imagine anything similar. Strictly on the field/court though, the way the Heat got dismantled this year is kind of close imo. Hell even how the Lakers got exposed by Dallas in 2011. But it doesn't come close when taking all the rest into account.
