I actually discovered MIRC before napster, but napster was way more convienent. My boy was an operator in the RNS room so he used to get albums real early. I remember the first album I got early was Jagged Edge J.E. Heartbreak......

then first year university I was like one of the only dudes with a cd burner. I used to make cds in exchange for weed and stuff. Good ol days.

What's funny is, ppl were still selling MILLIONS of albums when Napster was at it's height.

In alot of ways, stuff like Napster opened doors to more fans to expand their taste in music.

Eventually yeah, something had to be done....but the way they made it sound at the time was like the industry was on it's last leg.

But MIRC was cool. I couldn't be arsed to make it work now. But then I was able to get over the somewhat steep learning curve and download Power Rangers. Also a bit of porn as well.

Napster did change the game it forced the music industry to start taking digital music seriously.

Of course Apple played a big part with the iPod, but I always said if there was no napster...there is no iPod/iTunes

I think Limewire was what I had after Napster, in 2001, forward. I don't even understood how Napster worked, how did they get rare ass freestyles, unreleased demo tracks from 1996 available for download? My concept of technology like that is pretty vague.

I mean, you could find a rare Memphis Bleek and Co D's freestyle over Shyne 'Bad Boyz' in one click....I can't find that shyt anymore to save my life.

To this day the Music and Movie industry is completely wrong on how they deal with downloading. That's another story.

yeah but just the thought of downloading a music file unto a computer for free of charge and then being able to burn it to disc (this was even before the mp3 player) fukking blew everybody's mind at the time.
