He wrote all of queen pens first one and most of foxy's and him and B.I.G tag teamed Lil Kim first those albums sold like a avg of 2 mill plus him writing that silly bugs bunny song for space jam. @ Dame, what Dame did for Jay was making him believe that he could be a star. So yes of course Dame plays a role in it. But cats forget that for the most part he was just barking at the hands feeding them and trying various failed ventures like the movies, signing all types of losers, trying to keep Roc-a-wear street, failed beverages, keeping the other artists that weren't brining in any money in tact. Jay-z is not eating of what Dipset moved. So while he did positive shyt in the beginning, he did a lot negative shyt in the second half 2000-04. And it was after that period when jay-z started caking that other money.
