Stick them in kumon or any type of tutoring free or not. Make them do workbooks you can buy, you learn outside the classroom, not in it. Your practice at home determines your proficiency. You gotta have them reading when they are young. When your parents give you reinforcement on learning the percentage of it sticking goes up

The sad part is how do you even begin to turn this around in our current state?

the simple answer is to probably promote 2 parent households that place a tremendous value on education…but how do you get this message across to this generation and get them to accept it when all they’re bombarded with is dysfunction?

coz that’s who we need to turn it around…and that goes for all black youth in the western world btw…it’s not too late but it’s getting pretty dire
To keep it a trillion it will have to be done at the fed level, so somehow we got to take control of the federal school system so black kids will have a better shot at learning

how many hours do these parents work ? how much time is spent on them commuting to work? how much time and money do they have to spend on reading?

yes you can be poor and tired and still enjoy literature but it's not always easy for a lot of people nor is the habit developed when their parents didn't have the same traditions or instill that practice for various reasons.

theres something deeper going on.

30 minutes of reading with the family a day would be very beneficial.

I don’t understand your point.
My grandparents on my father’s side lived in Mississippi and only had a middle school education, but my dad and 7 of his siblings went to college. That happened because his parents knew the importance of education even though they weren’t educated.

Let’s keep it real. The problem is a lot of these kids are raised by single mothers who just don’t give a fukk. The kids just get sent to school and then go home and watch IG and TikTok.

Of course funding and white supremacy is a problem, but a huge a part of the issue comes down to parenting.
I'm asking you to present the numbers. Were there more people finishing their education or not?

Cause pointing at outliers doesn't address the problem or help us understand either

I don't think the issue is people don't understand the value of education. Most people are well enough aware that more education equals better quality of life. However, knowing it's important doesn't put money in your pocket to get it

These kids arent stupid and graphs like this dont tell the 100% truth.Everything is always doom and gloom with black youth when its further from truth. The majority black school districts, inner city those kids are very smart,of course media wont show that. .The problem is teaching . Teachers are ready to give up on student just because they are disinterested in certain subjects. White Teachers and some black use the disinterest excuse and want black students in Special Ed .Trust I know I have been in numerous IEP meetings. Sad to say majority of Special Ed /Basic Skills are filled with black students. Alot of black parents are out there fighting for their kids.Sad to say In 2024 the real teachers are the tutors .

Hispanics in Florida having that far of a lead over the lowest is crazy. shyt is wild to even consider they have similar scored to whites from states like Oregon and Vermont.

Also wild that Asians are scoring that high in states like Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, etc.
Latinos in Florida = lots of Cubans that were the elite (doctors, lawyers, landowners etc) back home. They gave up their position among The 1% to escape Castro since he wasn't having it.

Asians are tricky because you've got Hmong/Laotians grouped with Samoans, Koreans, Pakistanis etc. Some Asian groups do really well, while others struggle. I know Indians make the most money and Filipinos make quite a bit from being nurses and phlebotomists etc. Academically, I bet Indians >> Chinese/Korean/Japanese but it's close.

Black kids? It's not innate ability. What trips our kids up is a lack of preparation. We send our kids to school and expect the teachers to give them everything. Your kid should know how to read and have some degree of comprehension, do some basic arithmetic etc

I remember too many times in class. There would always be the loud/disruptive Black kid that will be the first to tell everyone "Tamika breaff stank" and point and laugh....but be struggling to read some basic azz sentences in a book. Shyt was embarrassing. How you gon run your mouth 24/7, always finding time to clown on people.....but you can barely read a page of an age-appropriate book?

Yep and even middle class black areas schools are trash out here in the Chicago land area that's I I just send my kids to private school my son is 4 and can read, write and do math already my homie was shocked because his son is in public school he's in kindergarten and can't even write his name :snoop:
The teachers at some of these poor schools freaking suck. And the bad ones won't ever be fired. I can probably count on 1 hand the amount of teachers I had growing up that gave a fukk. You retained damn near everything they taught you. But the rest could care less and just went through the motions.

I never felt any resistance when learning language or math. At least the HS level stuff. In college I bumped into maths that were difficult for me. I cant imagine written English words being too hard to read.

Can't really relate to having trouble learning. Low key, I feel like there's nothing stopping a person from learning.. the basics. HS level stuff.

Whatever is happening with Black kids, the desire or lack of desire is the main driving force. No amount of pep talks will make a person more interested in learning.

agreed.

my mom taught me how to read but after that I really can't remember her ever reading to us, my parents also brought us to the library until we were old enough to go by ourselves.

they should do a poll on how many kids have library cards.

No it hasn't. Are you black? Do you hang around black people? The black people I hang around aren't ghetto, loud, and ignorant. I've met a lot of black folks who were good people.

Ignorance and stupidity is a choice
Yes I am black. No one said every black person was any of those adjectives you used. People tend to stick with people who share the same values as them. So why would an educated black person and an ignorant black person hang out and share the same space? They wouldn't.
Ignorance is about how you were raised and whether you were brought up to value seeking knowledge. We all make choices but our environment absolutely influences our choices. Systemic white supremacy and oppression may not affect everyone the same way but for a lot this is where that ignorance and anti-intellectualism stems from.

Stop acting like history has no effect on the present it's small minded. People are choosing to be ignorant. Why? Because they believe that it is good for them or it is what they know and are familiar with.

But you have made multiple problematic statements about ignorant black people before and seem to be one of those "bootstraps" brehs so there's really no getting through to you. Culture is formed by history. You're wondering why some act ignorant and others don't look into the history. Not all black families had an equal experience when looking at their ancestry
