Forgettable track, but back then having a Neptunes beat with the Pharrell hook meant you were probably dropping it as a single. If we're keeping it 100, most of Jay's tracks with the Neptunes were average with a few obvious exceptions. He never really had that consistent chemistry with them like he did with Timbaland, Just and Kanye

It's not a bad song, just wasn't what I was expecting as a first single from Jay's "last" album. They had just did "Frontin", which is classic. Then there was "La La La La" which was crazy. Then to come with "Change Clothes" was just confusing.

This is a good song, notice how the Coli hates anything that is geared for the ladies :dame:

This take is either dumb or lazy, take your pick of which one you are.

Before this single came out Jay put a whole album of bangers with R.Kelly,
plus his last album with “Excuse Me Miss” as a single.
“Change Clothes” was not on that level, we had seen Jay and Neptunes do better than that.

Are you telling me Stunt 101 was overshadowing Change Clothes?
:mjtf:
absolutely. g unit had the youth. stunt 101 was #1 on 106 n park. i dont jay's single even being on there. i didnt dislike change clothes either but i agree it seemed underwhelming compared to how big the album supposedly was gonna be.

I like the song and think it's dope lyrically but in real time this didn't hit. Black Albums buzz was off it being Jays last album and then when it came out, the quality, but this single didnt help the buzz at all.

The song made enough impact that (RIP) David Stern had ask Steve Stoute to ask Jay Z “can he change back clothes”
