Are you telling me Stunt 101 was overshadowing Change Clothes?

of course, G-Unit had hiphop on smash, everyone was basically saying bye to Jay-Z after Nas whooped his ass... dude went from selling 2 or 3 mill with the blueprint to 1 milllion with the blueprint 2.... Jay-Z was done, and needed one last gimmick

BP sold about 2-3..
Bp2 sold about 5 million (double cd).
BP2.1 sold about a million additional records
Black album sold over 3

I don't see any trend whatsoever

However Nas went from 1.5 to 1 with GS to 700k with a double album in 04.

Now that's nikka, is a trend.

Blueprint 2 only sold 3 million at the time of Jay's retirement, which means he only sold 1.5 million. The only solo albums that were more of a commercial failure for him were RD and In My Lifetime Vol 1.

And Nas was selling millions with more conscious music than anything else

Something Jay could never duplicate

LOL, it's still one of Jay's and Neptunes weakest songs. I never liked the song lyrically but I did like the message in the hook about growing up and changing those same clothes from the past. The beat was dope too but it is a weak song.

It wasn't as disappointing as 'Show Me What You Got' was as a return, but it felt disappointing as the lead for Jay's "final" album. Especially because of all the buzz about the production and what not.

on the other hand, My 1st Song was about as perfect a closer as he could have made. For a second, I actually believed he was done after that record.

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
You know thats a valid point Hiphopfan, this was one of the first times Jay was coming out, and while there was heavy anticipation and expectations, it was the beginning of newer/younger artists beginning to crowd Jay at the top, tho none of them have had the longevity he had, 'Stunt 101' and 'Gangsta shyt' from 'Beg For Mercy may have gotten slightly more plays and attention, around this time, as G-Unit craze was reaching a fever pitch..

Re: The Black Album, I still want to know just what the fukk they were thinking with 'Justify My Thug'....
:lawd: that shyt was atrocious :damn:

Show me what you got is probably one of my favorite Just Blaze beats EVER. I can't even explain why I love that shyt so much.

I mean, I literally use to workout to just the instrumental. I blasted that shyt while playing any competitive video game. That shyt got me pumped....still does, actually. :wow:

Jay didn't do so bad on it, either.

Give the drummer some
I already gave the summer some
It's the winter's turn

There was a remix with Weezy on it, and some DJ in my city mixed it to sound like they (jay and wayne) were going back and forth for the first verse. I wish I could find something like that online. The shyt was :ohlawd: when I heard that shyt.
