This might be the first time this late in the season where I haven't watched a full NBA game since the late '80s. I've been complaining about the product pretty consistently since Silver took over. Finally got to the point where I don't care enough to even tune in anymore.

It's actually been a great year of basketball, I'm one of them old heads that usually complain but they been playing defense all year. You just grew out of the sport
The ratings are posted as reality check the NBA Stan’s on this board that pretend the NBA more important and watched than it really is.
And tbf. The NBA was absolutely a huge deal on This site when Kobe was playing and the mid to late 10s. I keep saying the no one prefers the current NBA and it shows here with how the nba is not discussed no where near as much
The NBA has done PLENTY to turn casual fans off and now I believe this stuff is starting to affect hardcore fans
And that's a failure, nba does its scheduling based on who was " good last year" and what mega cities exist, shyts stupid. How many games do the 9th seed and 10th seed need cause they in Cali?
nobody is rushing home to watch Jokic, Giannis, and Embid play.
People always talk about the 90s.. hell, we can go back 10 years ago when the NBA was on fire... had Kobe's Lakers, Big 3 in Miami, D-Rose, Melo in NYC, Boston's Big 3, LOB City, Spurs, Mavs, OKC's big 3 etc.. there was star power, drama, storylines etc.

I remember when NFL ratings were down a little bit NBA stans gloated and said the NFL was a dying league.
But when NFL ratings get posted that shyt on the NBA all of a sudden it’s only because of whites, or politics get involved or it doesn’t matter because the NBA does great overseas. Like nikkas in America gaf about that

Exactly, it’s funny watching these nikkas doing the “bu-bu-but ratings don’t mean much compared to social media presence and international ratings”, as if they didn’t try to throw dirt on the NFL’s “grave” a few years back when ratings were down like 10%
These same nikkas are trying to downplay the ratings mismatch now, like it can be justified
I’m an NBA fan too, but call out bullshyt when I see it.
EXACTLY- if the shoe was on the other foot- there would be 5 threads shyttin on the NFL, nikkas is clowns
As if old white men are the only NFL fans, despite all the NFL threads here on the coli
Adam Silver's NBA is very "kid friendly" and PG-13. Arenas packed full of kids.
Nearly every single League Pass game I've seen, it shows kids on the Jumbotron doing whatever they're doing.
It's a very family-oriented atmosphere focused on younger people (talking like elementary kids and high school).
Even the star players are like somewhat high school kids still (most people point this out).
I'm guessing the league is completely fine with that because they still shook from the Detroit/Indiana skirmish about 20 years back and this is the result of that as they want the players to be "safe" and kid-friendly role models. I think a lot of NBA players are buddy buddy right now partly for this reason. They want to control the animosity and rivalry players have with each other as much as possible so it doesn't get too reckless.
That's why this Draymond shyt is major news and a big offense in the league.
Meanwhile:
Football players on the other hand, people expect them to be less "civilized" and "PG13" by nature of what they signed up to do.
The fans know what time it is at an NFL game and with NFL players. There's no reason to pretend. They expect these cats to be Willie Beaman in-person.
I've been to a ton of Rams games at SoFi. They don't show kids like that on the Jumbotrons.
They show NFL Cheerleaders, crazy fans and fine women on the Jumbotron.
NFL Stadium are packed with adults showing skin and pounding beers, getting into fights (or throwing snowballs at each other) - because honestly, that's what grown ups do. That's the game's culture.
NFL games ain't something you bring your kids to as much as it's a place you go to with your friends and cause a scene. The ones who take their family there most likely don't mind their kids staring at some cheerleaders and women in the crowd flaunting what they got.
The entire aura around both sports is entirely different. NFL feels more "real" and grown up than the NBA does. I think it's left the aura around the current NBA product to be somewhat kind of plastic, over-processed and maybe even uninteresting to most Americans?

None of this changes what I said in my post. Corporations and the Right-wing won. You brehs celebrating ratings as if you are financially and emotionally vested. This doesn't mean jack shyt to anyone on here because we have no impact. This topic is and will always be weird to me and I have felt that way since I first learned of TV ratings.
Posting on a message board shows you have a level of awareness most don't have or want.
Both leagues are healthy. But we know NFL is king. By a large margin. And it's OK. Because we have access to both. And being on a message board, you're probably streaming every game for free.

I guess I will get into it eventually but the players gotta care more than me..
I finished cooking, putting together toys for my nieces and cleaning up Christmas evening and planned on pouring a drink and watching the Heat vs Sixers. First thing I hear when I turn on ESPN "Neither Jimmy Butler or Joel Embiid will be playing tonight"
