before i spend label money on some lame shyte i'm purchasing an army*
the first thing a rapper should buy BEFORE the jewelry etc, is a armored vehicle as well as bulletproof everything with security to match.

It blows my mind how many rappers been caught in cars, yet they never learn :snoop:

So they’re all richer yet they’re all fronting harder than ever and still don’t own shyt. Seems like a dumbass, never ending cycle of going nowhere unfortunately. :yeshrug: Something gotta change idk
I’m with you my point was not to say today’s rappers are flyer it was to point the excess materialism. That shyt trickles down to the community.

Right now there’s a kid that can’t wait to get his hands on a designer belt feel me

A-Boogie and Cardi B are just the biggest stars.

2019 was when the Brooklyn drill rappers started popping. Pop Smoke was the face of that. Then you have guys like Lil Tecca and Lil TJay both on huge records like Ransom and Pop Out and both moved units and they’re literally teenagers.

2018 it was Sheck Wes that dropped a quintuple platinum record in Mo Bamba and a Gold debut album. 2017 is when 6ix9ine came out with Gummo and became one of the biggest artists in rap regardless of the BS. 2016 is when A-Boogie came out and is presently one of the biggest young artists. Young M.A. also came out with Ouuu in 2016 and is presently one of the biggest female artists and independent artists. 2015 is when Desiigner came out with Panda, a quintuple Platinum record. 2014 was GS9’s year and 2Milly dropped the Milly Rock.

I searched up 1TakeJay son not popping his highest viewed video has 3M views. I also heard a song is off-beat rapping the wave?

Sheck Wes came and went as did Designer. I do think Smoke had staying power and more longevity in the mainstream than the aforementioned. Already had a national and international tour lined up. Did an acting role in a yet to be released film and had tracks with Travis and Quavo; nine with the latter. He was going to be around for a while. The Brooklyn and NYC rap scene lost big with his murder. Don't see anyone doing drill that's going to fill his void.

California loves blood. In fact I’d go as far as to say California is thirsty for blood. I feel bad for dude. He must have really been feelin himself and enjoying the Cali life and before he knew it it’s a wrap. Posting your address on ig tho smh. Fatal mistake.

May the young brother rest easy. I just started listening to him maybe a week ago. Didn’t even get a chance to let it grow on me before he got popped. :francis:

The Booth is over here wilding.. smh. Not even reading through this thread bc yall are doing all this. 89 pages of back and forth speculation, conjecture, really?? 89 pages before the facts and research comes out. I know for a fact, most of yall commenting on this weren't even in the Pop Smoke music threads when he was out and making moves, bc those threads didn't do more than 10 pages with all the NY hate and negativity. It was only like 3 -4 of us really posting his music like that, right off top it was @JordanWearinThe45 @BK The Great @Guvnor and @ISO (along with a few that I recognize by username if I saw them, that actually liked the wave that was going on). The rest are Fake or fake concerned. Back over to TLR - at least posters commenting over there have a reason to.

My point was LA doesn’t even have new rappers coming and going nikkas aren’t even being put on. Sheck is one of those fashion nikkas that don’t even take music seriously.

I agree none of the other guys can fill his void. Fivio is a terrible rapper.

R.I.P. to Pop though it’s bigger than rap

Look at this b.s. - The Booth has an 89 page thread going about Pop Smoke. When only 4-5 of us were active who actually talked about Pop Smoke in threads that were created over in that Forum before he got "big" and before he passed.
https://www.thecoli.com/threads/pop...y-update-possibly-targeted-hit.762173/page-86

Now compare that to the people who actually commented in Pop Smoke music threads and discussion about him when he was alive. Threads only had maybe 10 replies or 6 pages. Those fukkin frauds over there - now they have so much to say about him and the situation.

SMF and LAX to VA and NC
I didn't think I had to specify. :manny:

Rappers that came out like 10-15 years ago don't really represent this generation of hip-hop.

For the last point I disagree. The rappers in LA aren't getting deals they aren't garnering traction they aren't getting a lot of views. Roddy is huge right now. Blueface was popping but is more of a troll gimmick nowadays all his recent singles have flopped. LA new school scene is super regional.

NY has had new rappers come out and make a splash every year with hit records that go national. Also, two of the biggest underground movements come from NY whether it's Brooklyn drill or the new boom bap movement that stretches from downstate to upstate. These are two organic hip-hop movements, new energy, and both have been covered extensively by music publications and even on this board and have been recognized and co-signed by mainstream artists. LA has nothing like that, I don't even know what nikkas over there are even like nowadays.

All hip-hop scenes are more regional but even on a local level it feels like LA is being outproduced by NY and other cities. If y'all could post some artists I'd like to see it because the last nikkas I knew of were 03Greedo, Drakeo, G-Perico. Two of them in prison and all three of them were older dudes.

Who are the hot new national-to-global NYC exports of the last 24 months, basically since the beginning of '18?

Takashi would be the only one I could name, and really he blew up/got hot in late '17....but even counting him, I can't name you another...

I think you're missing my point, so I'll keep it moving after this post lol. The overwhelming majority of these NY cats yall talking about are locally famous more than have a real recognizance nationally or globally. I didn't know who Pop Smoke was until 4-5 months ago on here when yall posted that video of him getting at one of the dudes from years ago (and I only could recognize him because years ago I saw the video of the dudes slapping him), and never heard a song of his until yesterday. His name wasn't as big as Tekashi's, so I wouldn't even put their popularity on the same lame, unless you're setting strict criteria on what makes you larger than locally famous...

Alota these artists aren't as big as I believe you think they are. Plenty of us are hip hop heads but we don't hang with 22 year olds and we don't listen to 22 year olds and we don't work at schools and we aren't in the clubs like that. Your environment is more why he (and others) were bigger to yall----->same way I was listening to DaBaby several years ago but there wasn't a single thread about this dude on here until the Walmart incident in November '18. My environment introduced me to him and he has been popping in Charlotte for awhile, but he wasn't a big deal outside of Charlotte until a year ago. And Pop and no one else I can think of from NY have been climbing the popularity ladder as fast as he has in the last 15 months...

Like I hear yall mentioning this Nas Blicky and other NY rappers often on here...dude, we don't know them, g. These dudes are way bigger in NY than anywhere else and that's how it pose to be, very few of these dudes are bonafide superstars. Tekashi the only NY cat I know...

All these nikkas regional, bro...
