@Ohene
I agree, but only from my perspective. What I want out of hip hop, I'm no longer getting. And that's cool. I've changed, hip hop has changed, and the artists I grew up with - either they stay the same, and I'm not interested, or they change...into something I don't want to hear.
As far as MBDTF, that's one of the last records in the last 20 years I heard that just blew me away.
Looking through what Google said dropped since......, picking out other possible peaks
- 2011 - Watch the Throne
- 2012 - Good Kid, m.A.A.d City
- 2013 - Meh- Yeezus and Magna Carta - major steps down, Maybe Nothing was the Same... But by then hip hop had seriously changed.
- 2014 - Meh
- 2015 - To Pimp a Butterfly
- 2016- Meh
- 2017 - Damn & More Life
- 2018 to Now - Meh...
Lotta names I recognize, but at no point have I been hype about Tyler or Earl Sweatshirt or ASAP Rockie. They're speaking to young cats. Same with Future, Migos, Young Thug, etc....
Hip Hop keeps splitting.
- NWA made everyone gangstas
- The Chronic said good bye to Digging in the Crates
- The Love Below said it was okay to sing
And for the most part things have been differentiating ever since.
Honestly cats like Nas, Jay, Yeezy, Drake, Kendrick - they're not really what the culture is about these days. And they haven't been for a while. They are still capable of putting out hits of course, but the game has really changed.
