Yea, Rudy gets these half-baked criticisms thrown his way partly because of pocket watchers and old heads envious of his last deal...

...but also because ppl only pay attention to the end result of him overextending himself defensively to cover for his teammates instead of acknowledging the elephant in the room as to why he has to cover for them so much.

Bringing up PHX was strategic bc defensively you never really hear about Ayton "getting played off the court" despite having comparable mobility.

Luka's ankle must still be killing him because he has no lift and just doesn't look right out there.

Ayton's a lot better offensively. Gobert gets played off the court in the playoffs because he hasn't been able to punish small ball lineups down low.

As someone who watched every game of the Capela years in Houston (dollar store version of Gobert), and some of his ATL playoff games... there is no being played off the floor offensively for that type of PnR lob-threat big surrounded by shooters & high IQ players.

It may not always be the primary play if you face an elite team but the constant lob and offensive rebound threat will always be there.

Specifically to Gobert, he didn't get played off the court when they went 7 vs Denver.. and vs LAC ppl referred to Mann getting those 3s off as to why Gobert shouldn't have been on the floor.
