BI enjoying the island brother. He’s opted for a two night stay. @Piff Tannen

No idea why Indiana let him go. It's not like that team was underachieving

They had four straight first round losses and four previous in his tenure in Portland. I'm guessing that they thought that they had the talent to be better than what they are/were. Problem is, the majority of those dudes on their team are injury prone and always have been, yet they still brought them in on the cheap. Someone on the Pacer's SB Nation website summed their issues up perfectly:

Ever wonder why the Pacers have so many injuries? Maybe because they have to take chances on talented players with poor injury histories to try to squeeze out what production they can without paying the max. Danny Granger fell in the draft thanks to knee concerns and was awesome until knee issues eventually slowed him down. Myles Turner dropped due to concerns about his running gait. Malcolm Brogdon had foot injury issues. T.J. Warren had injury red flags, but was free. As frustrating as the injury issues are, it isn’t shocking.

They weren't underachieving but they were also stagnant. 4 straight 1st round exits under Nate with 3 of them being sweeps, not many coaches would survive that.

I view him as the coach you need to make your team competitive, but not good enough to take them to the next level.

Granted, a lot of those issues with the roster in Indy wasn't his own fault but he still had to take the fall for it.

When you put it into context I don't think it's as bad

2017 - Swept by Cleveland with Paul George having one foot out the door
2018 - Took Cleveland to 7
2019 - Swept by Boston, no Oladipo
2020 - Swept by Miami, no Sabonis & crippled Oladipo

But like I said, regardless of context not a lot of coaches can survive 3 first round sweeps in 4 years

And it's not a bad roster at all as they have a collection of talented dudes. They're just injury prone with no sense of direction of who or what they want to be.
