All of this play-in talk is so corny and really dilutes the value of the NBA season. If you can't make it to the 7th or 8th seed in 82 games, then you don't deserve the extra opportunity and 2nd chance.

It's fine or whatever in the collegiate game, but not in professional sports.
They’re not playing 82 games this season though

Halliburton was the obvious pick. Why pick a backup center at #10?

Haliburton probably wouldn't get much playing time either. Suns resigned Jevon Carter and Cam Payne as backups.

Monty doesn't trust rookies.

To be fair to Jalen Smith, he caught Covid and was out for a bit. Combine that with not having a training camp, Monty probably didn't want to throw him into the fire when he has Saric, Crowder, and Cam Johnson to play PF.

I hope James Jones can find a decent backup center. Saric is okay in the role but he doesn't protect the rim well and it shows when Ayton sits for rest.

Blazers ain't shyt :francis:

Was gonna ask if what yall gave up for Powell could've been used as a package centered around CJ to get a legitimate co-star for Dame (that's above 6'3).. but i don't think there's any top 10-15 players still available to be had.. and didn't realize yall gave CJ a contract extension through the 2024 season.

What yall gonna do with Nurkic next season with his contract about to expire? He gonna get paid too and lock in this core? :patrice:

They may not have any other choice but to as there isn't anyone better out there on the market. He's not necessarily a bad player, but he can't stay healthy. That goes along with Collins as well who theoretically was supposed to be Nurkic's replacement.

That goes with keeping CJ as well as who is out there theoretically that you would consider as an upgrade?

None. I think it's over, word to @Big Boss

Maybe they could've won it all in 2019 if they'd done the hail mary for Kawhi (SAS) or Butler (MIN) that prior offseason when both were seen as disgruntled malcontents.. but such a gamble is probably only a no-brainer retroactively. Whatever moves they could've made, realistic or blind fate, i think the window done closed.

Yall are where HOU fans were last year. We'd said in our season thread that if we flamed out in the bubble with our high scoring midget roster, it'd be time to blow it up and do Harden a solid with a trade to a contender.

Harden was 30 turning 31 last year. Lillard is 30 turning 31 this year. But if yall lose in the 1st round again but Dame remains willing to stay put for the long haul, then i'd really be curious what exactly yall would do with the roster to tool up.

It was a wrap on their window a couple of years ago when they didn't take advantage of the Whiteside expiring and instead waited on Nurkic to return from injury. Granted, they would have been fukked if they took on K-Love's contract, but they could have used it on someone else or packaged it with CJ to go big and gamble.

I also believe that they initially drafted Anfernee Simmons with the mindset that he'd eventually be the replacement for either Dame or CJ. Unfortunately, you don't have the time to develop a project when you "think" that your championship window is open.

I wonder what the blazers are gonna do. They peaked in 2019 and it’s clear that this team has run its course.

yeah but it seems as if they just don’t want to blow up the Dame/CJ duo and looking at the rest of the roster I’m sure they could put a package together for a 3rd guy but they really seem to believe in their players.
