I want to see Kendrick beef with one of his peers lower on the ladder, like Drake is doing now. Allow him to sharpen his skills before getting at Drake.

But he already said earlier in his career he wouldn't do something like that
K. Dot explained that while he understands the effectiveness of beef as a marketing tool, he makes sure to avoid engaging in feuds with other emcees. He said that he prefers to let the quality of his music dictate his legacy, not his actions against detractors.

"I mean it’s the entertainment business, you can never forget that, so I don’t knock other people’s strategies to keep themselves relevant, I just comprehend that the music comes first and always speaks first, no matter what you do," he said. "You can say the most outlandish thing but if you drop a record the next day and it’s trash now you’re just a popular person. I don’t just wanna be a popular person, I want my music to always live because that’s what’s gonna drive your legacy. You can be the most popular person on the planet. There’s a lot of artists that are way more popular than Kendrick Lamar, but when it’s time for their album to drop and that week is up or that year is up and the reception from that album is not as critically strong as good kid, m.A.A.d city, it shows…I just let the music speak. I don’t get into all the crazy shenanigans of the business. I let the music speak and at the end of the day that always stands."

Come on man, feed the people! :damn:

The reason Drake didn't tweet meek's album is because Meek's camp found out about it.

There's a lot of misconception surrounding this beef. :heh: Not saying it's your fault or anything breh.

You didn't answer my question tho.
Let's say he still tweeted his album would Meek have called him out?
Meek has a history of being whiny when people don't tweet about his album.
He did the same thing to Wale.

Nah...nah.

The point of me posting that was to show you, Drake wasn't going to tweet his album regardless.

Meek's camp found out about to deception and probably told him not to. :laff: I don't know, but tweeting is not the source of this beef.

So yes, even if Drake tweeted it Meek probably would have tried to take his head off anyway.

no doubt, i never heard the 2nd verse uncensored tho

ight my random hip-hop thought is as time goes on
the journalists like sacha jenkins are forced to chronicle the new mainstream.

which puts the culture into an inferiority loop.

i got friends who tell me things like "wait WHAT?!!?? drake and nas did a record together??!!" "Fck Nas!"

but then are like "yooo im coppin the yeezys"

or i got nggaz who say cormega and ghostface is they favorite artist but the last time they heard an album from each of them was over a decade

/rantover

Why some projects announced fell through/never happened.

Time issues? Budget? Lack of interest?

What's in that fukking vault of Dre's

Would so and so really be a star in today's climate?

My philosophy is they helped facilitate the climate but wouldn't necessarily be big as they were in today's landscape

I wanted to elaborate on a post I made a while back about Hip Hop.....

I just find the music very stale and uninspiring of late. An over-saturation of rappers who cannot make songs, and talented emcees who lack potency and progressive production. It's actually made me understand why so many people like Drake, because even though I'm really not a fan of his music, he's got the right idea in terms of crafting a sound that is quintessentially him. I've used that phrase before to describe his music, and it is apt to any popular musician that people find relatable - no matter how talented or they actually are.

In terms of other rappers - I tend to find there's something missing. It will either be the beats are good but the rapper either sucks or lacks any punch or distinguishable attributes. Or the rapper is talented but the overall product is poor. The content is good but the beat is shyt. I'm encountering that more and more and more these days. And I actually think that the bigger stars in today's Hip Hop are the producers. There are some good beatmakers out there. The rappers - eh. They're not even that bad in terms of actual emceeing - for instance, I was listening to Kevin Gates recently and he's surprisingly decent, he kinda reminds me of a knock-off Z-Ro - but there's always something missing. Kendrick is the golden child according to a lot of people I know, but I always think there's something missing when I hear him.

When I was making music, I had that same feeling - that there was something missing and I wasn't quite getting it. I spent a long time trying to figure it out, and I think I've found out what it was. Sometimes things get stale and you have to evolve. I'm expecting Hip Hop to evolve quite soon. For myself, I'd like to create a hybrid sound that can potentially aid that evolution. Because that's what I feel is missing. Need to get that potency, that lyricism, songwriting and progressive production together, rather than fragmented on different parts of the scene.

While I appreciate the psychedelic and new directions these artists are going, I feel like bars are being compromised too much. Rocky's album was dope sonically but there wasn't one quotable verse on there IMO. J Cole's last project was the last album that had verses where I was like :gladbron:. Not to say that I didn't enjoy Kendrick or Drake's projects but just a gripe I have.
