Why some projects announced fell through/never happened.

Time issues? Budget? Lack of interest?

What's in that fukking vault of Dre's

Ayo...real talk,

whenever I find something stuck to my shoe, I always say "just a ______ on the bottom of my boot, while i'm still Starang."

I wanted to elaborate on a post I made a while back about Hip Hop.....

I just find the music very stale and uninspiring of late. An over-saturation of rappers who cannot make songs, and talented emcees who lack potency and progressive production. It's actually made me understand why so many people like Drake, because even though I'm really not a fan of his music, he's got the right idea in terms of crafting a sound that is quintessentially him. I've used that phrase before to describe his music, and it is apt to any popular musician that people find relatable - no matter how talented or they actually are.

In terms of other rappers - I tend to find there's something missing. It will either be the beats are good but the rapper either sucks or lacks any punch or distinguishable attributes. Or the rapper is talented but the overall product is poor. The content is good but the beat is shyt. I'm encountering that more and more and more these days. And I actually think that the bigger stars in today's Hip Hop are the producers. There are some good beatmakers out there. The rappers - eh. They're not even that bad in terms of actual emceeing - for instance, I was listening to Kevin Gates recently and he's surprisingly decent, he kinda reminds me of a knock-off Z-Ro - but there's always something missing. Kendrick is the golden child according to a lot of people I know, but I always think there's something missing when I hear him.

When I was making music, I had that same feeling - that there was something missing and I wasn't quite getting it. I spent a long time trying to figure it out, and I think I've found out what it was. Sometimes things get stale and you have to evolve. I'm expecting Hip Hop to evolve quite soon. For myself, I'd like to create a hybrid sound that can potentially aid that evolution. Because that's what I feel is missing. Need to get that potency, that lyricism, songwriting and progressive production together, rather than fragmented on different parts of the scene.

My dude, I can see this...but I feel the opposite.

As a person who (amatuerly) plays music, I can appreciate a polished product - a work of art.
However, I love that hip-hop wasn't originated to be that!

It's supposed to be raw, mayne!
It doesn't have to be well-arranged like classical music.
It doesn't have to be all hooky, so everyone can remember the words like pop music
It CAN be all that, if it wants - but it doesn't have to be.

And I cringe whenever someone says it has to "evolve"...
I mean - "evolving" doesn't just mean to change, it means to keep what was good and add to it.
That's not happening, and hasn't been for a while.

As you implied, rappers today aren't bad at actual rapping. I said "implied" because I don't necessarily
think they can MC. I couldn't imagine being in the crowd for a Kid Cudi show. It would be so non-lit.

I have more thoughts, but I don't feel like typing anymore.

Can a rapper have a legit claim as one of the greatest if he ain't even the leader of his group?

It just bugs me out that they used to play this on the radio...my uncle had nothing but West Coast shyt in his collection. Dude's part of the reason I got into hip-hop as hardcore as I am now, asides from my older sister. Was checking out the Paris thread and stumbled upon this gem, random as hell, not the best song in the world but took me to a better time.

What the fukk was Tim Dogg thinking with "fukk Compton"? :mindblown:

Like who thinks that's a good idea? That's like if that nikka Jidenna decided to up and diss Detroit or Oakland....it's just a retarded thing to ever consider.

One thing i've found myself doing is to go to Youtube and type an artists' name in the search bar,
that's a quick way you can see what their "greatest hits" are. Sometimes you get surprised...

A lot of early 00s indie rap foreshadowed the climate today. Louis Logic, Slug, Blueprint etc would be more palatable with today's listener

Royce IMO should be mentioned alongside Em when he been around as long, been nice for longer and arguably washed him on a few records
