People think bulking = eat whatever. Only time you cut first is if you are obese. Cutting = muscle loss, so if you dont have any to begin with it does no good to cut first. Bulking first you can fill up your frame and then do a cut to be lean with new muscle.
I think not having any muscle to lose at the start makes it a great idea to cut first. Think about it.... u cut first, u might only have to cut like 15lbs to get beach lean. U bulk then cut, u have to cut that 15 plus whatever u put on. Plus if u bulk first u dont really learn how to eat. U can get stronger w/o counting every macro/calorie but u cant cut that way. So cutting first legit teaches u how to count macros and shyt.

I think its prob good to take a few months to learn the lifts and get comfortable but after my experience I would recommend newbies cut before going on a bulk.

As far as what I gained, 10lbs over ~21 months. But that came with 20lbs fat.

Realistically I would say 1/2lb a month lean mass with another 1/2lb fat is reasonable, and very manageable. Over a year, say u bulk like that for 10 months... thats 5lb of fat. U take 2 months to cut, thats more than enough time and u shouldn't lose any strength. Or u can get even leaner than u were when u started. Etc. I think a lot of people get lazy/irresponsible with their bulks... lord knows I did :sadcam: U have to treat a bulk like a cut in the opposite direction. Watch the scale, count calories/macros, adjust when u need to etc. IMO
I'm cutting now, probably going to be the first time I've truly been lean (i.e. using abdominal viability as the barometer)...I was wondering if fat gain would simply be unavoidable if I decide to bulk up in the future...then again I used to be 300+ so its probably not the best idea.

If u approach your bulk the same way u approach ur cut u should be fine. It will be a little easier since all you have to really do is watch the scale... u dont have to be as strict. But u def have to keep shyt in check.

Biggest challenge is not going crazy when u come off the cut. Thats what gets a lot of people. I have been cutting so long I'm damn near used to eating like this. So I'm hoping it won't be a big adjustment. shyt shouldnt change much... just a little more food.

This anecdotal so take it for what it's worth:

I came off a cut and I'm trying to add muscle now. I think it depends on how you look at it. There will be some fat gain to any appreciable addition of muscle (without the use of Cell Tech). The question is do the muscle gains off set it enough for you to deal with it. Before I jumped into this plan I would have thought no but my measurements and weight have been in check all things considered.

IDK, but I'm past trying to get to magazine level abs, powerlifter abs and additional muscle might be the wave.

Also consider cardio. I wouldnt start doing cardio on a cut but I would def get into it in a surplus. U have room to play there and its good to get that base built up to use on your cut. It will help u regulate weight on your bulk too.
Yup, since I've been eating less I stopped it completely (outside of some swimming) but when I wasn't I incorporated it..albeit too much.

Yea everything is about balance for sure. But back before I had my diet dialed in at all cardio helped keep me good. My bulk split is gonna be a 3 day full body program.... plenty of time for cardio.

Cutting first just to bulk (unless you are obese) is counter productive as aftee a bulk you will be back to cutting again due to fat gains. You can eat the same foods on a cut that you can on a bulk so that throws the "learning how to ear" argument out the window. The literal difference of a bulk and cut can be a shake or meal as one aim is to get a surplus in calories the other is wanting a deficit.

Trainer killed me again.

We did the 4,8,12,16 rep superset thing we tried to do on Sunday for 4 sets. So first group was a push the second was the pull.

So 4 reps of bench press, 8 reps of incline dumbbell press, 12 reps of push press and 16 push ups back to back for a superset for 4 sets.

Then the second superset was 4 reps of dumbbell rows, 8 reps of seated cable rows, 12 reps of lat pull downs and 16 reps of upright rows. Same thing these superset for 4 sets.

Really curious how sore im gonna be considering how different this is from my normal routine.
