I don't typically fast for caloric restriction. It's mostly done for discipline/self control and spiritual reasons, which is why I do it regularly. I also find myself fasting unintentionally during hectic times in my life, when I typically lose my appetite. That is the space that I am currently in.
I eat a pretty well balanced diet overall, and I don't deprive myself if I am craving something (carbs, or even sugar).
I had been strength training, but I wasn't sure if I should continue because I wanted to lean out. I will continue. You're right, it does so much more for the body than just toning.
Thanks so much for the advice!
The fasting comment was an aside for everyone, not really aimed at you. Folks that don't eat and then credit that for their weight loss just lacked the ability to effectively portion control. Fasting gives them a way to do this by reducing the amount of time (and thus food) they can eat.
As far as the strength training thing, the number one misconception most ladies have is that cardio > lifting for fat loss, body composition, aesthetics, etc. when it almost always the opposite that's the case. Building muscle will lean you out as the muscle burns calories just existing on your frame.
Also, remember that you cannot "tone" per se, you can only gain or lose body fat and build or lose muscle. Things like muscle shape and insertion points and tendon lengths are genetically determined and can only otherwise be affected by surgery.
Good luck and keep this thread in the back of your mind moving forward (that other one is no bueno
).
