Random question. A breh is finally looking to get serious about working out and improving my physical health. My biggest issue now is figuring out what gym to join. Does anybody have any feedback or suggestions in making this decision? In particular, for gyms located in the Brooklyn/NYC area? Based on the research I've conducted, I'm leaning towards a gym along the lines of Blink/Planet Fitness/Crunch. I'm brand new to the workout scene so I'm not looking to shell out the money for Equinox-type gyms just yet. Thanks in advance!

I can’t speak to that area but generally speaking I would base it on how you plan to utilize the equipment and amenities. For example Planet Fitness it usually better for people interested in cardio machines and “lighter” circuit/machine weight training whereas Crunch tends to also have more equipment to lift in a heavier/barbell direction.

Just starting out, pick something is convient to you. Either close to work or close to home. That way it's easier for you to actually go and not make an excuse to skip it. At your level, all the gyms will suffice as far as equipment goes. Once you narrowed your list down, I would check each gym out and see what it's like at the time you plan to go and get a feel for what equipment they have. Any gym without multiple squat racks should get tossed into the bushes:camby:

Appreciate the advice man. Right now I'm more so looking to shed weight so I'm more cardio-focused. My biggest concern with PF is the price tag. I'm not looking to spend an exorbitant amount of money but I don't want a bunch of fools just standing around "hanging out" in the gym either. Or is that an issue regardless of the price tag?

@You know damn well @ThiefyPoo

I just carb up this weekend so I’m going everyday .

When I get back to my regular routine I won’t maybe two to three times a week . Basically after my refeed whatever my body doesn’t use .

Depends, I don’t imagine most gym bros will be hanging out at the cardio machines. PF’s demographic really isn’t that group anyway. It would come down to an individual location but I doubt it would be an issue at PF.

Just my .02 but I used to work out at PF when I first started out. (I would do weights early AM at an outdoor fitness center and then drive over to PF to use the machines/DBs/treadmills.)

Most unmotivated fukks I've seen since high school gym class. :scust:

95% of folks there are only checking boxes. Even as a noob I knew PF wasn't it. A gym with tootsie rolls, pizza, and bagels? :dwillhuh: :what::dead:

If you're serious about getting right *and* you need to lose, I go to a place where folks are actually working towards something. :yeshrug:

That's the wrong type of mindset imo. You should not be worried about what other people are doing in the gym. Focus on getting a good workout in. As someone who has used pretty much all the commercial gyms, you're going to run into some of those types regardless (LA Fitness was the worst I experienced). PF gets a bad wrap(some of it is deserved) but as someone who has used it quite a bit, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. For someone just starting, it won't hold you back too much. Just focus on getting in, working hard, and getting out.
