i agree, but i don't really care for "hits" as much as the next person does. i care for quality hip hop.

dude even the qualty hip hop you hear or have heard came thru this process (payola)

Biggie....Nas...Jay Z....and even up till today K. Lamar...Chance the Rapper all benifited from this. :francis:

For example ARISTA RECORDS the parent company of BAD BOY at the time pulled alot of "strings" to make sure a breakout single by a street based rapper like BIG got heard...

in fact if u ever check out the courtroom transcripts from the Spitzer investigation you would see countless names of artists i.e (Outkasts) known for putting out quality music being namedropped...

None of this shyt we call hip hop happened ORGANICALLY.... :whoa:

And its been that way for awhile...

thats why Talib referenced legendary Program Director/Deejay FRANKIE CROCKER becaue back in the day he was the man responsible for "RAPPERS DELIGHT" making it to the airwaves in 1979 which led to hip hop spreading to the masses based on his relationship with the parent company of Sugarhill ..MCA RECORDS which was MOB PAYOLA central at the time.

Because Frankie didnt even "like" Rap Music..but he loved them CHECKS :mjpls:

damn that's crazy, i really have no words. IMO alot of the mainstream stuff right now is garbage though. but i find it crazy how alot of the music that sounded "organic'' and in tune with Hip Hop was being pushed like that.

Yea the only "organic" stuff i believe is the nikkas down south who were pushing major units out the back of they trunk, no other region had that type of shyt going on at that level

So you need 200k to become famous with a platinum record these days? Damn no wonder all these labels are pushing are actors and stuff. They the only ones with the money to do It. Truthfully if I had that money to Invest in a single I'd be hustling backwards. Fame is not that important. And I don't got dirty money to wash :yeshrug:

Speaking of Hot 97, Ebro actually broke down why radio plays the same songs over and over in this interview:

Basically the average person listens to the radio for like 11 minutes so you have to be playing the 'hottest' songs at all times to reel in listeners.

Added bonus:
Ebro loses his shyt when B. Dot accuses Hot 97 of payola
