That's why I believe race relations are worse now than they were 5 years ago. 34% of the country hates Obama so much that they associate blacks with him, and hate them by process of association. Blacks and Hispanics are the takers, who are weakening this once great country and enslaving (notice how the tea party constantly uses slavery imagery) hard working whites with debt.

"Diversity" to them means "anti-white." That's why they react so angrily to harmless shyt like this ad, or black history month, or even the most minor race comment Obama makes. They combat the alleged reverse racism of diversity with their own discrimination: don't hire a black person, because at the end of the day that black person probably is only here because of affirmative action; don't hire that Hispanic, because he likely knows an illegal who is stealing jobs. I'm telling yall, the good old boy system is in full effect as these people attempt to go back to the good old days.
TO be honest with you, I don't think many of these ideas ever left.
I think for most people it's hard to imagine that the children of racists in the
past are parents and grand parents now.
These people and their mentalities were around with Bush Jr./Sr, Reagan, Clinton etc.
And those same people now hold positions in office, teach classes, own businesses etc.

Yep.

Politics in Washington is also affected by this. Why do you think GOP congressmen are so eager to cut things like food stamps? Well, I'll give you a hint - they wouldn't be so bothered if they felt it was mostly whites using them. They've latched onto this image of lazy, shiftless blacks stealing from taxpayers and living "lavish" lives financed by the "welfare state". The mythical "welfare queen" if you will. Using this kind of rhetoric to fuel resentment is very useful for getting whites (and sometimes other minorities) to support draconian social policies, among all the other things you mentioned.

The combination of a deep economic recession (and the fact that it's easy to blame minorities for stealing jobs), a black president (fueling the perception that minorities are taking over), and the ease of using racial resentment to get elected (ie. the Tea Party) were like a perfect storm for race relations to get worse.

We're at the point where a large portion of the white population honestly believes that racism against whites is now more prevalent than anti-minority racism - that says enough.

The problem with the bolded that these dumb fukin teapartiers don't realize is that if there are slaves then there is a master. Now if you think blacks and Hispanics are the masters then you've got your head so far up your ass that you're beyond hope. But hey, keep blaming the other slaves for the actions of the massa...

canada isn't under ANY threat of breaking up, not even remotely close.

every once in a while, the bloc quebecois, the parti quebecois and other secessionists rile up enough francophones in quebec to make some noise, even gain some seats in government but ultimately, nothing happens. right now, the whole quebec sovereignty movement is essentially dead. i mean, it's not even an issue at this point. hell, the last poll i remember them doing on secession, they didn't even have a majority of francophones saying yes to it.

i think you are missing the point, if the whole secessionist movement is dead, that means it existed, why did it exist in the first place?

im simply asserting that language was at the core of the secessionist movement,

its simply a bold face lie to suggest that canada was not remotely close to breaking up, the possibility was real, it was small but it was very real, its a lie to suggest it wasnt real, and to equate quebec secession to a side comment by perry is also a lie and disingenuous

the overall point is we in the us do not want to go that route of trying to protect languages and multiculturalism and multilingualism, that just leads to unnecessary tensions like in canada, in the us immigrants need to understand that they will eventually lose their language and their culture, if they have a problem with that then they should not come to the us

a non homogenous population like in the united states is basically impossible to govern without an overarching culture and language, there has to be a glue that binds everybody together or else there is no reason for the US to exist

that's just reality, people should stop getting caught up in multicultural dreams and learn history and deal with reality

Saying that something is not remotely close to happening doesn't mean you're saying that it's impossible. You're playing needless semantic games to set up your straw men. Also, it was you who specifically said:

a few years ago canada almost ceased to exist because quebec wanted to secede

This is the hyperbolic claim people were mocking. Now you want to say it was a "small" possibility, which is fine, but let's be clear that you're switching it up from your original claim.

how the fuk is my claim false?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_referendum,_1995

The referendum took place in Quebec on October 30, 1995, and the motion to decide whether Quebec should secede from Canada was defeated by a very narrow margin of 50.58% "No" to 49.42% "Yes"

so let me get this straight, in 1995 half the people of quebec VOTED (not opined ala perry, they got out of bed, went to a booth and VOTED) to secede from canada, and its false for me to claim that canada almost broke up???????

who is this we? I'm in the US and i don't mind. And you again aren't taking into account natural language flow between areas and borders. in the southwest english & spanish are mingling, like it or not that shyt's gonna happen. Immigrants can keep their language, it's their right to do so. If they want to come to the US AND keep their language that's their prerogative to do so; it comes part and parcel with being free and such.

we is the united states, and im stating my opinion of what us policy should be

im in the us and i do mind

how would english and spanish intermingling counter anything ive said?

lets clarify somethings, nobody has a right to language, you have a right to free speech and to speak whatever language you want, but the multicultural movement goes further and says that a language has rights and that government needs to accommodate other languages besides english, which is what i have a problem with

so yes you have the right to free speech, but individuals have rights, languages do not, and IMO government and corporations should stop trying to elevate languages to be equal to english and government does not have to respect anybodies language because languages do not have any rights, this is not canada

IMHO if the people want government to put out two forms of information they it's their right. In other words if in a heavily hispanic, hatian, etc, etc area, if the CITIZENS have decided they want government to speak using two different languages then there's nothing wrong with that.

You're right though, languages do not have rights, people do and people have the right to speak what they want and petition their government to run whichever way they please.

WE just don't see eye to eye on this (but we knew that.)

Because you said "Canada would cease to exist". Then you went on to make some slippery slope that the rest of Canada might then be annexed by the U.S. or other nations. If you want to move the goal post and say what you MEANT to say was this, then fine. But I can only comment on what you actually SAID, not what you MEANT.

yeah exactly, in your opinion, but like i said the multicultural movement goes further and tries to say if government doesn't put out information in different languages its a violation of rights, which is stupid in my opinion

and the reason why the government should not put out information in different languages is because it encourages people to hold on to their language which is not a model that the us should follow

if there is one thing the us has gotten right in the past 100 years is shoving english and american culture down immigrants throats, that process of assimilation and integration and the resulting exchange of ideas and information is what has made america great and has made the us governable despite massive immigration and diverse populations

in and of itself cultural diversity is a bad thing as far as governance and national progress is concerned and without strong integrations forces social cohesion lessens and the territory known as the us becomes less governable

its extremely important for a non homogenous society like the US to have a common language and common culture
