two things:
1. hip hop would often take a cue from the soul forefathers. at one time james brown was a source of heavy influence, then the isley bros, on into the 80s/NJS/etc so on and so forth. but somewhere along the way, popular "hip hop and r&b" started to blend and the lines became blurred, and in some cases, the roles reversed. where's the soul, is this hip hop or ritualistic chanting? that's when i became disconnected, as it had started sounding soulless, lifeless, dead - the cause, self-cannibalism, feeding off itself, due to the intrinsic life force being abandoned (not just sampling, but overall influence).
2. never rocked with people like eminem, big picture wise, because of the fallout, because people like this...
you dont have to be and rnb/ soul head to get hiphop smh, if thats what youre into then kool , we all different people and like different sounds

...eventually/inevitably come in and start trying to redefine sh!t. "and that's what makes it hip hop"
