One of the theories I have been playing with, is the idea that based on a fusion of technology/how social media/tech has rewired us, is the idea that people treat their phones, specifically something like texts, as an extension of themselves, like an appendage, and if "we" are full of anxiety, apprehension, awkwardness, our messages will reflect that
it becomes like an emotionally based/signaling mechanism, and not a straightforward medium for communication. basically all those tools are engagement devices, to keep us more engaged with our phones, editing pictures, editing your texts post send, selecting emojis, double tap, and then the ones we invent for ourselves, like late responses, vs immediate ones, "leaving people on read", ghosting on and on. but they don't make for great communication.
