Question : If 50 died after GRODT would he be revered to the level of Tupac and Notorious BIG ?

Definitely would've if he died after Masscare. That shyt did a million first week with him alive

Gosh I remember the morning it leaked in the early morning and downloading it.

Album wasn't that bad either. Not as good as GRODT, but a solid follow up. Kinda like Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood

I think he would've been looked at maybe more like a Big L or a Big Pun than a Big or Pac, but he definitely would've been held in crazy high esteem.

I was a legit 50 fan since Power of the Dollar, but even I can admit that he wasn't the caliber of emcee as Big and he didn't have the same powerful song writing ability as Pac. 50 is very dope for what he does, but behind all the fancy marketing, top shelf production, catchy hooks, and dope voice, he was basically a shoot 'em up goon rapper. And I suspected after GRODT dropped (and I definitely knew after The Massacre dropped) that that type of music was only going to carry him for a few years on a worldwide/pop/crossover fandom level.

He became a part of the cultural zeitgeist from 2003-2005 but it was never in the cards for him to be at the top for many years. His music just wasn't transcendent enough. But if his career had been cut short I don't know if everyone would've realized that, so honestly I am leaning more towards yes than no on your initial question.

Nope he was too new of an artist at times for it to have a real impact.

No offense, but I don't know how anyone that was in their teens or older when GRODT could think this. It was one of the biggest albums of any genre ever upon its release. They had entire specials and documentaries on MTV and BET dedicated to 50 and the album. It was everywhere you turned your head. As far as albums go that felt like an event, the only other albums that felt as big in my lifetime when they dropped were Forever, Life After Death, Makaveli, Chronic 2001, Marshall Mathers LP, Speakerboxxx/Love Below, and Dark Twisted Fantasy.

No doubt. Massacre was bloated but if you trim the fat you've got one of the hardest street albums of all time to be released on such a mainstream level.

In My Hood
This is 50
I'm Supposed to Die
Outta Control Remix
Get in My Car
Ski Mask Way
Baltimore Love
Rider Music
Gunz Come Out
Position of Power
God Gave Me Style
I Don't Need Em
Hate it or Love it Remix

shyt, I ain't even that mad at a couple of the singles and pop joints (So Amazing is low key fresh). They just had too many of them. I wanna say at least 4-5, and the joints with Eminem and Yayo could've been dropped easy. It's also pretty crazy how little rap features there were on there.

Nobody in hip hop has reached 50s Apex. That shyt was bananas.

Movies, sneakers, clothes, video games, multi million dollar sport drink endorsements, whole team went platinum, etc.

Nobody not even Drake. The closest we have ever seen reach that level was Pac.

I wonder if a new artist can ever hit that level and beyond again in the present day landsacpe n future

master p did most of that, and more, 5 years before 50 blew up.

pac never came close to doing most of this tho. I don't know why you said he was the cloest to reaching that level. pac's real-time accomplishments get embellished a lot.

Pac banged out two all time classic black/hip hop movies (Juice/Poetic Justice) during his rap run wtf are you talking about? :comeon:

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
GRODT might very well be the only album that I've seen that was sold out in a lot of record stores. I think 50 has been a joke for a decade plus now, but that first album wasn't anything to joke about.

as much as I liked poetic justice, since when is it considered an all-timer?? that's revisionist pac worship.

and youre confusing his movies with his actual rap run.

rapping-wise, he had that 18 month run in 95-96 before he died where he was on fire. but all the years before that, he was middle-of-the-pack and was more popular for acting & getting arrested. and even when his music was on fire, he wasn't necessarily the biggest rapper then either. they got yall thinking pac & biggie ruled hip-hop with an iron fist.

Norfeast groovin…
Nah I think it would’ve been more like Nipsey without the positives in the backstory. Mixtape rapper that grinds while going through street shyt to finally make a prolific debut album.

I can see why OP said Pac because of the Ja beef and surviving the shooting. But he wasn’t in the mainstream game nearly as long as Pac had been by the time the beefin/shooting happened.
