Those two main points only worked for me until I finally saw the season finale. Which is what made the series not so interesting to me. Basically it was interesting because I couldn't tell what was gonna happen, rather than the script being "so well written" or anything.

It was like watching a strung out version of "There Will Be Blood"...which is hard to enjoy because it's too realistic. So the shorter these kinds of films are (for me at least) the better 'cause you gotta pack the not so boring parts closer together.

---By the way, I'm using the term realistic here to mean "boredom and frustration that can be found in real life depicted in film without any insight and expansion on the author's part."---

I really can see how a lot of people wouldn't rock with this series. Because to me this type of series only works for people who're highly curious not about human interactions but by cases and human obsession.

One thing I can confirm though is that I did not actually regret watching it. And I lied about there being only two interesting things about the series tho' there's an actual third and very important aspect of "True Detective" that I'd like to expound on:

Boredom - I think that this boredom can work on film if the director and production know what they're doing (which I gotta say they did with this series). It's just that the viewer must also enjoy the more mundane things/acts in life in order to appreciate this specific art style.

I actually watched the whole of season one and can confirm...that shyt is straight boring. The only thing that really gets you going is trying to see how deep the rabbit hole goes, because aside from that it's pretty boring. One of the most boring series I've ever seen, and I only watched season one because:

1- The protagonist duo was an interesting combination of personalities. Normal cop vs Obsessed cop
2- The case was interesting.

Everything else was just...meh.

I have had season one downloaded since last year, and only got thru 3 episodes. I kinda agree. although them titties in the 2nd episode.....
